Well, I only made it to 42 this year, but since I was three weeks short at the lake this summer (I was in England where I usually only watch British TV and read trashy magazines about Jordan and Cheryl Cole), those nine are logically lost. Also, I definitely read less when I have a boyfriend (although this one is a reader too, so that will likely change as the groove continues to settle).
Anyway, the last three of the year:
#40 - The Red Queen by Phillippa Gregory
Gregory is the queen of the English royal historical novel at the moment (better her than Alison Weir). I still prefer Jean Plaidy, but this was a fast read, and I learned more than I expected to. I didn't know much about Margaret Beaufort before this, other than that she had Henry VII when she was 12 years old. It was interesting.
#41 - Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert
I actually enjoyed this alot, even though the reviews weren't that great when it came out. I'm in a relationship right now that is likely going to lead to marriage, so it was interesting to get a "marriage skeptic"'s point-of-view. I particularly enjoyed her statistics research into why marriages work...and why they don't. Plus, Gilbert is just likeable, even though self-absorbed.
#42 - Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
This one is a YA. I can't remember where I saw it recommended, but I enjoyed it a lot. It had a great structure - the main character, Clay, receives a bunch of cassette tapes in the mail, with a note from the sender, Hannah, explaining that if he listens, he will hear the reason that he is one of the 13 people responsible for her suicide. Suspenseful.
