First Books of 2010

Woo, here we go again!

Book 1: Necessary as Blood by Deborah Crombie

The latest in the Duncan Kincaid / Gemma James detective series. Pretty good installment - strong mystery set in and around Brick Lane, and some fairly major developments for the characters as well.

Book 2: Death Without Tenure by Joanne Dobson

The first new book in Dobson's Karen Pelletier mystery series in about five years, so quite exciting! It was basically worth the wait, though the mystery really surrounded Karen's application for tenure rather than a having a literary angle as the books normally do. So lots of good academic drama, though Karen's job stress hit a wee bit close to home right now.

Book 3: Persuasion by Jane Austen

A re-read in advance of teaching Persuasion this week. This was my third or fourth read of this one, and it was just as great as every previous time. I think P&P still wears the crown, but Persuasion is a very close second on my list of fave Austens.

classic lit, allie, mystery/crime & thriller
