Does God Exist? by
R.C. Sproul My rating:
5 of 5 stars This book in R.C. Sproul's "Crucial Questions" series is also the deepest one that I've read so far, as it goes into great depth about what famous philosophers and scholars have said, so I found myself reading a lot about Rene Descartes, Friederich Nietsche, Karl Marx and others. Marx, for example stated once that religion was just something believers created to escape from the futility of life.
While no one can prove that God exists, this book made some really good points, many of which I was familiar with, such as the whole idea that it feels foolish to think that the universe came out of nothing ("What caused the big bang?" he asked at one point) and he also points out how the exact opposite of religion is nihilism.
As Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 15, "If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied".
I did find myself reading this more slowly than previous books I have read in this series, because there was more to take in, but it was a fascinating read.
