book 21: On Doctoring:  Stories, Poems, Essays by Richard Reynolds

This collection of healthcare related (although some I think is more just stage-of-life-related) poetry and poems spans authors dating from 1878 to present.  There are many potent pieces included.  Most of the authors are well-known and well-awarded.  I'm estimating about half are or were physicians at some point in their life as well.  It was a painful book for me to read, reminding me of two things that I am still grieving...the loss of my residency and the death of my father.  But, the quality of the collection is undeniable.  One of my favorite poems included is "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas.  One of my favorite prose included is "A Summer Tragedy" by Arna Bontemps.

poetry, literature, health, short stories, anthology
