As Time Goes By - Michael Walsh
Pages: 418 (3299)
Blurb: The most romantic and beloved movie of all time ends on the tarmac of Casablanca - where this story begins.
At long last comes the book that continues the story of Rick, Ilsa, Louis, Sam and even Sacha and Carl...the men and women who made Casablanca unforgettable. From sun-baked Morocco to wartime London, from the smoke-filled speakeasies of prohibition New York to the streets of occupied Prague, As Time Goes By brings to life the people you thought you would never meet again.
It's more than the same old story, but still a fight for love and glory, on that you can rely...
Thoughts: I really wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I loved Casablanca and was curious as to how you could follow on a classic film. Turns out this is a good way of doing it. Walsh uses 'clues' from the original play and screenplay to work out what happens to the characters of Rick's Cafe Americain and makes some very educated (and highly believable) guesses at their stories. Walsh used actual historical events as the basis of the story, interweaving the romance with a thrilling adventure taking us all over the world. I loved Rick's backstory and the conclusion of the book. I would recommend if you liked Casablanca or appreciate historical fiction.
