May 2014 reading:

16. Half-Off Ragnarok, by Seanan McGuire (356 pages)
Not from Verity's point of view. I think McGuire does a fairly decent job getting into a male point of view, and the story kept me reading. At times this feels a little... I don't think the word is contrived, but possibly overdone? At least in the aspect of Shelby's character. But that may have just been me.

17. A Storm of Swords, by George R.R. Martin (1,177 pages)
A lot of this book took me by surprise, though a lot had also been set up in previous books. My suspicions about Jon Arryn proved correct. I was engrossed by this one, and loved the character development, though it's clear now why people say not to get attached to characters. Man, the Red Wedding...

18. A Feast of Crows, by George R.R. Martin (784 pages)
Can't seem to stop reading these. The fact that I'm reading them on the Kindle app of my phone doesn't help. This one deviated somewhat from the players previously seen. Cercei done gone cray-cray, but that was a short pier. Overall, just as enthralled by this one as the others, and I'm looking forward to consuming the next.

19. A Dance with Dragons, by George R.R. Martin (1,125 pages)
People warned me not to get too attached to characters, but man it's hard not to. The last several chapters left me reeling. There's definitely a lot set up in this book, and I'm now one of the millions waiting for the next one!

20. Urban Tumbleweed: Notes from a Tanka Diary, by Harryette Mullen (127 pages)
A friend recommended I read this, and I'm glad she did. I loved many of the poems here. Some touched me with their language and imagery, and some made me laugh at their wittiness. Interestingly, this is similar to what I set out to do this year myself, and I'm glad to see I'm not alone in these sorts of projects.

21. The Undead Pool, by Kim Harrison (423 pages)
It's been so long since I read the last one that it took a bit for me to remember details. The plot is actually slowly starting to wrap toward the conclusion the next book is supposed to bring. Definitely enjoyable, and seeing these characters again in this world was a little like meeting with old friends. It was also nice to get a taste of elf magic. However, I do wish the cover wasn't so generic-hot-chick-who-doesn't-resemble-Rachel's-description.
