Books 12 - 15

12.  The Shining by Stephen King:  4.5/5

I don’t know why as a King fan it took me so long to read this book.  I had seen both the Kubrick film and the mini-series but all pales in comparison to the written story they are based on.  It’s a story that deals with the worst kind of evil, the evil that lays dormant inside.  Great tension.  Very haunting.  Not something you’ll want to read right before bed.

13.  Cocaine Nights by J.G. Ballard: 2/5

This was something I would definitely have never read if it wasn’t for the 1001 Books list.  I really didn’t care for it.  I found it to be kind of pretentious and I thought the characters fell a little flat.  I did at last develop an appreciation for it in the last few chapters but overall, I didn’t really care for it.

14.  When You Are Engulfed In Flames by David Sedaris: 4/5

I love David Sedaris.  I read Me Talk Pretty One Day and now I’m hooked.  All his books have made my list.  His new one is a little different, the stories more endearing that blatantly comical.  Really really great.

15.  On Writing by Stephen King:  4.5/5
A must read for anyone who is a fan of King and his work or who wants to become a writer.
