It's actually a quartet - the fourth is called Extras. And I'm halfway through Uglies right now - Tally kind of drives me nuts, but Shay isn't really much better.

Oh yeah, forgot about the companion book. It slipped my mind because I don't think it's a piece of the continuity?

Yeah, Shay's not much better... I think Tally improves, but you'll just have to see.

I don't know that much about it, really, just that it goes with the other three. I have Uglies, Pretties and Specials all autographed by the author, though.

I checked, and Extras is about a totally different girl but I guess Tally shows up in it again.

I think Pretties was my favorite. I wasn't terribly impressed with Specials, and I haven't read Extras yet. As far as Westerfeld's works go, I really liked Peeps best. It's a good take on vampires (vampirism as a parasite, with some people immune or carriers) and every other chapter has a little bit about different types of parasites, which is gruesome but educational.

I agree: I'm liking Pretties best too, although I haven't read Specials or Extras yet. I'll check out Peeps, thanks!
