and again with the comic stuff...
OK, 18 Rabbit this time. He's probably going to be the main baddie of the comic. zomg villain! Here he is... concept sketch and two reference pics under the cut. There's a spoiler for the comic inside too, if anybody's weird about that sort of thing.
I know he looks a little girly and stoned, but bear with me! I now understand why the professional types hire colorists and stuff. My head is broken from all the detail I had to do. Now that I have a little bit of a feel for the characters, I'm going to try to work on the PLOT(!) some more, but I'll post concept sketches and stuff if they come to me.
Lil' bit of background...
The Mayans had a bunch of city states that shared roughly the same language and religion. Copán in present-day Honduras is where 18 Rabbit had a forty-three year reign over the entire Montigua valley. He is known for facilitating the 'great artistic age' of the Maya. 18 Rabbit in particular was a sucker for his quasi-divine status, and was big on building stelae to himself and making big additions to Copán. Thankfully, this gave me some approximation of a drawing reference.
Anyway, he was eventually usurped by his vassal in the nearby city of Quirigua, and 18 Rabbit's death marked the beginning steady decline for the Mayan empire. In the comic, 18 Rabbit learns of his fate at the hands of his vassal and tries to change the course of Mayan history... and then the Doctor is like, "oh-no!"... and then I bust out the sock puppets and tell the rest of the story that way!
Who knew fandom could be educational! Now for video games. *runs away in shame*
