Don Jerome Kauth Jr. was a bank analyst with the Keefe, Bruyette & Woods firm, he worked on the 85th floor of Tower Two. He was 51 years old when he passed on and was the father of 4 children, all of which were keen hockey players. One daughter, Kathleen, represented the US in the Torino Olympics as an ice hockey player.

Each time one of his children graduated from college, Don J. Kauth Jr. would include a yo-yo as a graduation gift.
"It was the symbol of what he told them -- Go out into the world, find something you love to do, always do your best, and know that you can always come home again," said Linda Davis, who dated him for the last 18 months before his death on Sept. 11. He stayed in close touch with his four children who lived in Saratoga Springs after his divorce 10 years ago, and arranged to work from home at least one day a week to be near them, instead of at his office in the World Trade Center in Manhattan.
"We were just hoping and praying it was that day, but it wasn’t," his sister Ann Ferris said.

The little information I could find about Don told me that he had been an incredibly loving father, devoted to his children and their future and an all round nice guy. Countless of times I've found comments from people that knew him and they all say the same thing: he was one swell guy. One commenter wrote that even though he hadn't known Don well, he always seemed to wear a smile.

"He told us, 'Find something you like to do and the money will come,' " Matt, his oldest son said. But he was immensely proud when Matt worked at a homeless shelter with the Jesuit Peace Corps, a job rich in everything but money. And when Kathleen, his daughter, won a place on the United States national hockey team, he was "crying, he was so overjoyed," said Winifred Kauth, his mother."
