OMG. OMG.

*freaks out*

As some of you may know, Ingrid and I have attended the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Paris (which, btw, means that we're way cool for at least one of my cousins!) back in June and thus were given a code to redeem to access a then unnamed beta.
We just kept hoping and praying and chanting "Wrath of the Lich King, Wrath of Lich King, Wrath of the Lich King!!"

And then they announced that Worldwide Invitational attendees would indeed be invited to test the next WoW expansion.
It was a sweet, sweet day in our household, let me tell you. There was more chanting. There was bouncing up and down in the kitchen. There was joy, and there was glee.

Ingrid had redeemed her code almost immediately, and I followed suit some days later. And hopeful and excited... we waited for our beta keys.
Ingrid received hers at the end of July, I believe. She tried it, only to discover it wasn't working. Eventually she figured out that it was a key for european servers which we don't play on, and so following a process outlined somewhere on the forums, she requested that her key be exchanged for one on the US realms. And then she waited. and she's still waiting.

Meanwhile, I received my own beta key on Aug. 15. My excitement was tempered by the fact that I assumed it would be a key to EU servers, and indeed it was. And so I immediately sent along my email requesting an exchange, and then I waited.
Mind you, I'm way less patient than Ingrid. After 10 days and having not even received a word back, I emailed again to ask that they please at least confirm having received my email. Nothing.
Then I realized I was supposed to send my information to a different email address. And so I resent. That was on Aug. 23. and then I waited. Nothing.

About 10 days ago I went to the forums to look for answers and realized that in the meantime they'd changed the process and were asking for people to provide slightly different information. I pondered and eventually sent in yet another email with the requested subject line On Sept. 7.

And you know - given that we 'd been hoping for the beta for WotlK all along and were completely psyched at the chance of getting in the beta, it was a little disheartening to see people who's just opted in and not done anything special get their beta keys and start playing right away, while we were still waiting with no word of reply to the emails we'd sent to the customer service people. Not that we weren't happy for them - we were just a little sad that we'd seemingly been forgotten.

A few days ago Ingrid emailed them back to ask if the new key had maybe been sent to her and gotten lost after her email problems. She got a reply that to their knowledge, she was still in their system as having requested an exchange, but that nothing had been sent to her. No mention was made of the fact that she'd been patiently waiting for 4 weeks already or of when a key might be coming her way.

Yesterday I went to the forums again, discovered yet another thread with many people posting to say they hadn't received a key yet - nevermind an exchange - and came to the conclusion that we probably wouldn't get to see the beta at all.
My anger at this point was proportional to my disappointment. I told Ingrid that while I realized it wouldn't change anything, I was strongly considering cancelling my WoW account. I can understand being overwhelmed. I can understand not being able to provide a timeline (though not completely). I will never understand not replying to emails for weeks. I will never understand or accept them not apologizing for getting people's hopes up only to make them wait for weeks with no information.

This morning I received a very kind email from a guy named Justin T. He thanked me for the information I'd resent on Sept. 7 and said that it would be used to exhange my key for one I could actually use. and that he was afraid there was no estimate for how long that might take.

Fair enough, I thought. That's not in any way a surprise. At least I finally got a reply, and I was ready to content myself with that.

And then I realized there was another email in my inbox.
Which subject read: "Wrath of the Lich King Beta Invitation!"
With a new key in it.

And then I freaked out.
