Patch Day!

Nov 13, 2007 12:57

As my fellow players know (hi, guildies and
dracmtt  !) I have been very excited about patch 2.3 ever since I started hearing about it. And subsequently, every time I started reading the patch notes (which would be... every time a new patch hit the PTR).

By the way, I'm talking about World of Warcraft. Feel free to resume your regular programming, non-WoW players.

So, Patch 2.3 is going live today. Realms are supposed to be back online at 11am PST but I'll take that with a grain of salt (and maybe a shot of tequila to celebrate) because of past experiences. I'm pretty much expecting the servers to act funky for a few days as well after the patch hits.

Patch 2.3 hits today and for all my reading and preparation and my popping in the PTR... I AM NOT READY.

I have not farmed serpent meat. I have not farmed arakkoa feathers. I have not farmed Sporeggar reputation.
That will leave me to fight it out with the many other players who will be farming exactly the same things come tonight, and we all know how good I am at fighting with other players. (Ingrid forced me to do 2v2 arena with her. After trying it with both my rogue and my newly shadow priest, we are at 0-10. It is terribly sad; and while Ingrid tells me it doesn't matter, I don't particularly enjoy getting killed in half a minute without able to deal any sort of damage).

I do have Wednesday off, though, so maybe I'll pop in and try to farm before too many people log on. Overall, though, even though I expect some of the new content and recipes and quests are going to be a big pain in the ass for a few days or weeks until everybody gets tired or equipped... I have a lot of love for patch 2.3. I know, it sounds silly, it's a patch. And yet. That patch makes me love the game and want to play, which as any level 70 player sick of dailies and running the same instances will tell you... is extremely well done on Blizzard's part, and no small feat.

First of all, battleground daily quest. Brilliant idea!! Even a reluctant pvper such as myself will be trying that, and possibly liking it. Cooking daily quests? I'm so there. Finally a recipe for a drink with buffs. Eldowyn is so excited she can barely contain herself. Well that, and the fact that her holy gear will now provide about 1/3 of the healing as damage. Also, my points in Meditation will now allow 30% of my mana regeneration to continue while casting, instead of 15% previously. Holy guacamole!!
But best of all? Fear Ward. It's also well known I hate the damn fear with a passion. Never again will Eldo have to run while helplessly watching the squishies die from lack of a healing she's momentarily unable to provide. At least - she hopes so.

My shammy is particularly ecstatic about the changes to level 20-60 content. While I do enjoy questing, some brackets have felt unbearably painful in the past. recently though, it's been nothing but pure fun. Doing low-level instances without a level 70 has been incredibly enjoyable. In the long journey to 60, it has only been Thrynn and Eldo, with the occasional help by Draconis, and later, Chewy, Lishesque and Adhenora; in Amarian's case, it's been a lot of solo play. Most lowbie instances I only discovered later, and while running it as a high level or being run as a high level is efficient... it's really not something I enjoy all that much. So I'm looking forward to levelling Arundhati with new quests and the experience being increased, so I never again have to wonder if I'll ever reach level 40 to get that damn mount.

Sometimes, it's really the little things that make me happy. Like the travelling vendor which now sells coffee in Shattrah. Heee!

Speaking of coffee, time to go get some.
