[July 2nd mushroomtrip] [open for hijinx]

Lighter knew it was going to be a hell of a day when he opened his door to see the Kraken waiting right on the front step.

"G'day mate," it crowed cheerfully around the fishing pole in its mouth, its scales shifting from green to blue to yellow and back again. Had they always done that?

"I'm supposed to turn up on your doorstep."

"Not today! Today, I'm gonna eat you."

"...No thank you."

Lighter slammed the door shut, hoping that would be enough to make the Kraken go away. It didn't surprise him, really. It was only a matter of time until it too started talking to him. All of the OTHER creatures in this school did. Now he'd have to sneak out through the door that led to the hallway of the teacher's dorm building instead of the one that led straight outside. What a bother.

He turned around to find that he was suddenly face to face with a certain cowboy. "Holy--!! Flint, what the hell do you think you're doing?!"

"Watching you." It was about now that Lighter realized Flint was upside down. Standing on the ceiling. Something told him that was normal around here, too.

"Get down from there."

"Oh, Lighter! I'm so lonely up here!"

"Well, get. Down."

"We should talk more, Lighter. You're always off alone in your cabin. You're such a hermit. So closed off from the rest of the village." Flint crossed his arms.

"Heeey, hold up a sec, you're the one who hasn't talked to nobody since--"

"SOOO LONELY. The both of us. Kiss me."

"...What." Lighter just stared at Flint, completely thrown off his game. He couldn't tell if he was being serious. If he was, then... WHOOPS NOPE NOT GOING THERE. NOT NOW, NOT NEVAH. He snorted and knocked Flint's hat right off his head.

Wat should have been his regular face had only one eye and a big, upside-down grin. Lighter stumbled backwards, uttering a cry of surprise.

"We're both so old and lonely," the not-Flint droned on, turning his head (and ONLY his head) around so that it was right-side up. "We'll die cold and alone. I can't let go. You can't let go. Lonely old men."

"Hey, shut up!" Lighter growled and pushed past Flint to the safety of the halls. Had they always been full of such beautiful red and orange flowers like this? But they weren't flowers.

They were flames.
