I wasn't going to watch at first because I knew there would be no McDanno but I like Cath and I want to be fair to her. As a regular she's going to have one or two episodes focus on her and I want to be ok with that.
I didn't watch the first of it (happy to miss the Dog the Bounty Hunter shit) and didn't pay that much attention with the parts I did watch so this is not a description of the episode.
Not sure why the Navy allowed Cath to be undercover since this crime had nothing to do with the Navy but whatever.
I'm surprised it took them 45 minutes to identify the coach as an ex-con. They should have got the fingerprints of everyone on the team. I don't know why all the secrecy about identifying them. As cops investigating a murder they had the right to demand the IDs of everyone involved with the victim. I guess that wouldn't have made the story as exciting - which it wasn't BTW.
Doris is such a bitch. I don't know why Steve doesn't just ask her to leave the island permanently. I know she's his mom but she sure as hell isn't acting like it. I'll be glad when that character is gone. Also, and this is just a personal thing, who the hell is dressing this actress? She's in her 60's and she dressed like a 30-year-old. Yes she's got a good body but god, age appropriateness anyone?
After finally Cath told Steve what happened to Doris (where Doris was torturing the guy who kidnapped her) and admitted she kept it secret I thought they'd break up but he forgave her in the end. Of course he did.
Steve really is a lousy boyfriend. I don't know why Cath stays with him. He takes her for granted, uses her all the time but she keeps coming back for more. They don't show enough of their relationship for us to understand what she gets out of it. I'm sure the sex is good but hopefully there's something more to it. The women in this show are supposed to be so kick-ass but they are useless around their men and it kind of ticks me off.
I love Steve but I'm conflicted about how they portray his character. Always he's the smartest, best-looking (that part is true), the bravest, the most kick-ass, has the most beautiful woman at his beck and call. He's perfect and it's getting a bit tiresome. I'd love to see an episode where he isn't so f-ing perfect all the time. Also I really, really want Danny to have a regular girl friend, someone who is on the show for more than 4 minutes per season. How about him falling in love with a native Hawaiian woman? It would be hilarious to have him love a woman who grew up in and loves Hawaii. What a contrast. Not to mention maybe he could be one of the few characters not dating a white woman. (Sorry this has nothing to do with the episode.)
Overall the episode was ok. Nothing special. The usual implausible investigative techniques. God why can't the scripts be better?
I hope next week's episode is better.
