Yeah, I saw Rent. Since it is not playing anywhere within an hour's radius of my hometown, Thomas and I stopped at the Parks Mall in Arlington before heading home for Thanksgiving. I also saw it with David Sunday night. I cried through half the movie the first time; I LOST it the second time.
My Fair Lady has been my favorite movie for at least the last 3 or 4 years; no movie has come close to comparing it. It's just classic. However, after seeing it once, Rent has bumped Ms. Hepburn to 2nd place. THAT is how amazing I thought the movie was.
Tango: Maureen and Take Me or Leave Me were my 2 favorite scenes, simply because they took something, while amazing, 1-dimensional on the stage and brought it to a whole new level. The scenes were just amazing--the dance sequence in Tango and the engagement party in Take Me. I mean, that was out of left field, but it WORKED.
Rosario? DAMN. Tracie? Fabulous. Anthony? Most adorable geek ever. Idina? Over the top. Taye? Sexy bad guy. Jesse? Such an amazing presence. Wilson? Anyone who can dance like that in 6-inch heels gets my applause. Adam? My future husband.
I have never been so moved by a movie in my life. And I'm glad I got to see it with my brother; he was impressed, as well. Everyone should go see it, because I believe it's life changing. A friend asked what it was about, and I had to tell him homosexuality, sex, strippers, music, AIDS, death, drugs--but most importantly, love.
3 weeks ago, I was distressed by how much hate is in this world. As someone who was raised to believe in nothing but tolerance of others' lives, I can't grasp the concept that a person would take it upon themselves to condemn someone else for believing in something different...I'm not saying you have to believe what they do, but you need to respect their right to believe it. Now, I am overwhelmed by how much love there is, too. I think it was fitting it opened at Thanksgiving--my family and friends are what I'm most grateful for.
To my GATO lovelies~I don't talk to ya'll as nearly as often as I need to. I'm sorry I don't call or write or comment or IM like I should. But I love you all, and think of you every day. I am extremely proud of each of you and what you're doing with your lives. "I'd die without you."
Good luck on finals everybody!
