Or so I've been taught my whole life...we are living in a very transitional time...with all of the technological advances made in the past few years alone, people just a few years younger than me are growing up in an entirely different world. Still very similar, but the small fact that I never had a cell phone until I graduated high school actually plays into a lot of it.
Its hard to talk trash on cell phones because I'm writing this on my sidekick id that has the internet, text messaging, instant messaging, games, downloads, email and of course a phone all built into it and accessible from most any civilized area that I might travel to. Cell phones are an awesome invention. However, the sad fact is that I know people who are incapable of sitting down with each other and working out their differences face to face...it has to be done through text messages or email...this way, they can say everything they want to say in any way they want. Which seems like a good idea, but where is the humanity in all this? Where is the general understanding for one another? We are living creatures born to experience life for all of it's beauty. We are nothing more than what the life cycle of the earth has created to gather experience and knowledge. If we can't learn to communicate as people with each other, we are doomed to raising our children in a world that keeps you inside your own little house and away from everyone else. The truth is that we are very slowly heading toward societies much like the ones you see in movies like V for Vendetta. I remember a lesson I had in sunday school about the logistics of boiling a frog. If you put a frog in boiling water it will hop out immediately...well duh...but if you put the frog in some regular water he'll sit there...then you slowly heat up the water and he doesn't notice as the water gets warmer and warmer until before long, the frog is dead and floating in the water it had become comfortable in. Lets hop out of this shit before it gets any hotter.
I am worried, not just for the sake of my own life, but for the sake of my friends who have found their lovers and are making steps toward starting a family, for my friends that have already started families, and for my own family. Life is so much more complex then I was raised to believe, and if you are familiar with Utah religion at all, that's quite the statement. We are more than just 'people' that grow up and get 'jobs' and make babies that turn into people that grow up and get jobs. We are life. We are alive and breathing and we need to realize the simple basic importance of life and love so that we can progress as human beings.
It is time for change. I have felt the goodness that life has to offer and it was not found in tv, video games, magazines, or any of that shit, it was in me. It was in the feelings I shared with my friends and other people. Nothing has ever felt more right. I don't know about the rest of you, but I want to see this world realize what it has become. Throughout existence, people have always taken the ideas that were already built and added to them or found out better ways to do it. I think we've learned all we can from this bullshit life of tv and indoors. When was the last time you saw the sun set?
