the things I put up with for money

Sometimes you meet people in life who just drive you insane.  Most of the people who get on my nerves do so at work.

I work in the kitchen at a nursing home and consider it a pretty easy job.  Following doctors orders on diets and making sure people get the right stuff is a daily chore, but for the most part we do a really really good job.  One of our residents does not agree with that statement though.

We recently got a new cook due to an old one quitting.  The cook is actually a bit of a moron (but that's another story) but he was doing a pretty good job yesterday at getting people what they needed. I had been watching and helping him all day.  However, I walked away and he accidentally gave one resident the wrong meal (keep in mind, 1 out of 72 was wrong).  She was supposed to get pureed food (think baby food for senior citizens - it's due to the fact that they have trouble chewing or swallowing) but was given a regular meal instead.  Her son found this and proceeded to flip his lid.  I received the brunt of his anger, even though the mix up was completely not my fault.

This particular resident had been in the hospital for the previous month so the new cook didn't even know she existed until that day.  Another reason I wasn't even upset with him.

The residents son forced me to read the diet card out loud to him - "can you read? what does this say? No, really, say it, read it to me!"
He asked me if "you women" can ever get anything right
He asked what we would do if his mother had died on that meal (uhh she didn't!)
He then said "get my mother food" and stormed off

We had to prepare a whole new meal because all of the leftover food had already been thrown away and we were doing dishes.

When I brought the new FIXED meal to him, I apologized profusely saying it was an honest mistake, the cook was new and things happen.  We took care of it in a timely manner and again, we were SORRY!

He then told me that if it wasn't  MY fault he expected me to file a formal complaint with my manager saying that my cook was inferior and unable to do his job properly.  I said that I would, just to appease him, but also said... hey.. it was a MISTAKE it was fixed, no big deal sir jackass!

He rolled his eyes at me mid-sentence and walked away.  I stood there talking to his back, telling him that I wasn't finished talking and that he could listen regardless of the fact that he wasn't man enough to face me.

Men are pigs.
