Some kids in high school are so jaded by media, their churches, whatever. A kid was saying how in the Qur'an it says "convert or die." This, coming from a strong christian kid, with an extreme bias. Saying how Muslims are violent and fanatical and should be kicked out of the country. Stuff like this bothers me so much. It really makes one wonder if this is the general American view of Islam.
I didnt attack the kid, or bother to correct him either. I did ask "Have you even studied Islam at all?" He said yes. Typical, people always say yes, even when it's apparent that they have not. He then goes on to say "I want to read the Qur'an just to see how messed up it really is." There's a million things wrong with this statement. For one, the Qur'an was meant to be read in Arab. That is the only way to fully understand it. And two: Fucked up? Is there nothing fucked up about getting all the animals on the world into one boat? Not to mention this one boat, being built by one man, and this one man being able to gather up all these animals. Is there nothing curiously strange about that?
The hypocrisy of statements like this, for one who follows christianity, is that Jesus himself said "Love thy enemies." It's quite obvious this kid doesnt love his enemies, considering he wants their obliteration.
What bothers me, is this massive ignorance. Plenty of us are ignorant. But to be confident in your ignorance, and able to stride through with your uneducated, unresearched ideals, as if you are some scholar. Fuck, I could be a scholar from watching television too.
Islam aint fanatical, it isnt violent either. People are fanatical and violent. Why isnt this obvious?
