It's been like a couple of YEARS since I last posted here, right?? No? Well, it has been a long time, no doubt about that! I have thought and thought about posting, but I really don't get to use the home computer that much. Seems there's always something else to do instead. And I'm just not motivated enough to do a long catch-up post on the iTouch

Have you thought about explaining to Tirzah what guns really are and what they do? Police officers carry them and she might wonder what they are. I know she's young, but not all that young. You could explain that they're used for protection, hunting, but also explain (without trying to frighten her) that some people use them in the wrong way. I dunno....I guess David and I have a very different approach to parenting. Our kids are still very much children, but we're pretty open and honest about stuff that goes on out in the world. Also, David has a hunting rifle, so it was a good lead-in to talk about it. Zach goes out in the field with David when he does target practice, though we don't allow the kids to use the gun. It's also locked away without ammo in a part of the garage attic that they don't even know exists.
I tried the whole, "look, big girl undies, you wanna wear them? then you have to go potty in the toilet" thing with Girly, but she just wasn't interested. Like Mia, she did it in her own timing. girly was almost 4 when she decided that she wanted to go in the toilet, but when she did it, there were no accidents. I think part of the wait was that she figured that Zach was still in diapers, then why did she have to make the effort, but Zach was a whole different issue with his autism.

First of all, I think of you every time I hang the undies now, lol! :-D I'm sure you're right that no one cares as much as I do about our undergarments, but it's weird when you're completely exposed to 3 different houses and, to my knowledge, we're the only people on the street who line-dry. But my biggest issue is the older teen boy next door- I'm just not comfortable with having the girls' underwear out for all to see, you know? I'd be more okay with mine being seen if they weren't so fun. Having my neighbors see my red with white polka dots or panties with the word PINK across the butt.... just hard for me. :-)
Anyway, enough about underwear, lol! I wanted to say that I appreciated what you said about guns. Jonathan and I feel much the same as far arming your children with accurate knowledge about stuff, but in the shock of having my 4-year-old daughter tell me she was thinking about shooting someone, I think I forgot. We did end up talking more about it with her, explaining more of what guns do and what they are for. She was saying because of a dream she had wherein someone came in and shot Jonathan, then we shot them. :-/ Makes me wonder where I've failed in her media use!! Anyway, I think she was just really having trouble forgetting that dream. Giving her the chance to talk about it helped, of course. I struggle to be calm and just talk things over, rather than freaking out and telling them not to think such things, but of course it's worth it to remember!!
So yeah, thanks for your response. I appreciate it. :-)
