Loud cheers from the audience of the street race can be heard as the entire racer come into the circuit. This is the most dangerous circuit in this town. There is a steep cliff at the end of the circuit and all racers required to drift and return to the starting line which is also the finish line.
“Hi kou!! How are you brother?” Hikaru said as he approaches and then hugs his best friend Yabu Kota who is standing in front of his car.
“Fine bro…Let’s give the best competition for the audience and for Kei to see.” Yabu happily return the hug that Hikaru gives to him.
‘Kei…he is here??’ Hikaru tought.
“Hey…What are you thinking? You suddenly space out huh?” Yabu pats the younger head.
“Hahaha…iie, betsuni” He answer. And then they both greet their supporters who had gathered around the circuit.
**** Flashback… (Hikaru POV)
We used to play together, the three of us. Me, Kouta and Kei…
We are best friend since our High School time. The three of us really like automotive. Well actually only me and Kouta who are fond of automotive while Kei is only there to be our loyal listener when we started to talk about cars or about racing. He never complains about us being crazy over cars and always listens to us with a face full of curiosity. Somehow I like to see that face of him.
Kouta and I have our own small workshop behind his house. It’s not really a workshop but only his old abandoned garage that we changed into a place for both of us to do a car modification. Both of us always spend our time here, just chatting, playing or doing car modification. Kei never come to this place before, but lately… he always come to here and I don’t know why?
The question keeps lingering on my mind until one day, I found out the answer. I was doing my car engine check up when he appear in the front door of Kouta’s garage. I feel happy just by looking at his silhouette from here, under the car. I went out, intending to say hello to him but before I could stand from where I sit, I see Kouta approaching him and kiss him. I feel a sudden hurt in my heart.
“Hika, we are going for a while. Please, take care of the place. Okay!!” Kouta said as he drags Kei to the outside. I just smile to them, realizing that my heart has been shattered into piece. I took off my gloves and start to clean the place. But I just can’t get him off of my mind. I can clearly see Kei gentle smile and every move he made. A single tears rolling on my cheek without I notice it.
Flashback End…
****The race will start soon, all the racers have been told about the rules. There is one person who collects bets from the racers and the spectators. They can bet with money or with their valuable things. And that when he saw Yabu takes out a necklace that he know so well whose the owner of it from his pocket and gives it as his bet.
“Hey, Yamada…Can I see the necklace?” Hikaru ask the bet collector.
“Ah…This? That is Yabu’s bet. I wonder if he didn’t have enough money to bet.” Yamada said with a disappointed look on his face.
“Can I have this necklace? I’ll change it with my money.” He asked again.
“Sure!! That necklace really means nothing in this bet. Nobody wants to have it anyway.” Yamada guy just shrugs and accepts the money from Hikaru. ‘It means the whole world for me’ Hikaru said in his mind.
After Yamada went from his side, Hikaru opens the pendant of the necklace. There is a photo inside it, Kei’s Photo. Loud cheers from the spectator seems didn’t bother his thought as his mind flying back to the first time he saw the necklace.
****Flashback…
Here we are together with Kei, on the outside of Kouta’s garage, washing our car. Well at first we really did a washing thing, but…in the end, we only playing with water until all of us are soaked. I was watching as Kouta and Kei chasing while spraying water each other. Kei use me as his shield as Kouta keeps spraying him with water and makes me drenched. Seeing Kei’s happy face that time really makes me calm. I don’t even care if I’ll catch a cold on the next day, because as long as I could see his smile I will be happy too.
I don’t know why I end up joining their chasing and spraying game. I run and run to catch Kei until both of us were tripped and fall. The beat of my heart become more and more uncontrollable till I am afraid that he can hear it. We stay on that position for a while until I see something fall from Kei’s pocket. A necklace.
I take it and show it to him.
“It’s for you Hika, my late birthday present.” Kei grinned and scratch his head.
“ah…arigatou, but you don’t need to do this Kei.” I feel happy because he remembers my birthday, even if it’s late.
“No… We are friend, right? So you have to accept this okay! Let me put it on you.” He takes the necklace and put it on my neck. But…
“Hey…What’s this?” Kouta appear between us.
“I give this necklace to Hika as his present, but he doesn’t want to accept.” Kei answer without looking at Kouta direction and keep trying to put the necklace on my neck.
“If he doesn’t want it, then let me have it instead.” Kouta take the necklace from me and wear it.
Flashback End
****The racing starts, all cars move after the judge gives them the sign. Kei appears from the crowd with his worried face. He suddenly remembers Hikaru’s face when Kouta takes his necklace from him. He feels guilty after seeing the younger face. Not because he doesn’t know the reason of that face but he already accept Kouta’s feeling. He knows how Hikaru feels toward him but he chooses to ignore it because the younger is not brave enough to tell it to him. He always wonders what if Hikaru tell him before Kouta, What if Hikaru has braved enough to tell him his feeling and what if…
On the other hand, the race still continues with Yabu and Hikaru competing for the first place. Hikaru is hanging the necklace in his car and uses it as his lucky charm. He keeps looking at his best friend car aka his rival right now, while Yabu always gives him a mocking look from his car.
The memory of the past comes again to his mind. The memory of Kei’s happy laughs when he is with Yabu and when they were playing using a cans telephone. The memory of load moans that he heard from outside when he came to Yabu garage one afternoon and he knows too well what exactly happen inside.
He looks again at the necklace, and he remembers about Kei’s face when he saw Yabu take the necklace from him. He surely knows that Kei knows about his feeling toward the latter and maybe Kei had the same feeling to him. He didn’t regret his feeling toward the latter at all. He loves him but he is not brave enough to tell to Kei the truth. He was a coward and the feeling is unbearable for him.
He hold on the necklace as it gives him a strength. Strength to do something that he won’t regret at all because the pain that he is holding is already too much for him to handle. The pain because the person whom he loves the most is now in love with another guy who didn’t deserve the latter’s love. The pain because of his cowardice. He keeps his car moves in fast speed. He is smiling, the sincere smile as Kei’s picture appear in his mind like a motion picture.

Every person in the circuit shocked with what they saw a moment ago. Kouta drift his car and stop. He runs out of the car to the edge of the cliff as he shouts his best friend name. And for Kei, He just stand still at where he is now. He can’t do a single move as his tears stain his beautiful pale face.
