HDNet is a network of channels in High Definition. It was made for High Definition televisions but you do not have to have a high def tv in order to get full enjoyment from HDNet (I am not sure of the total cost of HDNet as it came with a full package through DirectTV, but I know it was relatively small...in other words, it wasn't a big leap from what I was paying before I got the HD to when I got the HD.
