[Background]
Note: For the purposes of Som, MC-kun is Kiyoshi Yamada although Atsuro tends to call him by his nickname, Yuuto.
Born to a pair of engineers who worked in Silicon Valley, Atsuro spent much of his childhood with computers and on the 'net, frequenting forums and BBSes. Although his parents offered to take him along, Atsuro declined, since as far as he was concerned, his English sucked. His net proficiency, on the other hand, was a different story. Because of the net's anonymity, he ended up making friends with college students and adults, without either side really knowing the other's age at first. Presumably, at some point, Atsuro met Naoya online - from then on, Atsuro became Naoya's "number 1 apprentice" when it came to programming.
Some time in August, Atsuro's meeting up with a couple friends - MC-kun and Yuzu - after Naoya called them out. In the end, Naoya cancels on them but gets Yuzu to bring three modified, encrypted not!DS COMPs. Atsuro gets to work cracking the encryption - Naoya's hello greeting, as he puts it - unlocking first the email system - which predicts a death near Naoya's apartment, a blackout, and an explosion. The death happens. The blackout happens. They fight demons that come from the COMP's demon summoning program - and an explosion happens.
Over the next few days, a few things become apparent. Tokyo is locked down, no one from within the Yamanote line can escape, everyone has six days left to live (except for them - whose life expectancy according to the death clocks always reads shorter), and it has everything to do with demons. They run into Keisuke, one of Atsuro's friends from middle school, who eventually joins them. They fight demons. They run into Kaido and Honda who also have COMPs. Save Midori, a cosplay/camgirl with an almost moronic sense of justice. Continue getting emails that detail the catastrophes that will happen that day. Beat up Beldr with a phone charm.
And with that, they irrevocably seal themselves into the whole mess. When MC-kun defeated Beldr, the power that was within the demon came to rest within MC-kun. Though they did not know it at the time, MC-kun was now entered into the war to become the King of Bel - ruler of all demons.
In the mean time, they're still searching for a way out, for this lockdown to be over. Atsuro, being the tech genius he is, surmises that if the COMPs have a program that can summon and allow COMP users to control demons, there should be a way to hack into the main server and control all demons...
As tensions run high within the lockdown and humanity begans to rear its ugly head, those who get their hands on COMPs (distributed by the Shomonkai who Naoya originally developed the COMPs for) begin tormenting those without. The strong fight for the little food and water that there is while the weak can do nothing. People are killed - and the police do nothing because they are killed by the police. In the end, this is too much for Keisuke's strong sense of justice. Through his own will, without the COMP, Keisuke summons Yama, and goes on a rampage, allowing Yama to deliver the justice that is needed.
He...leaves. But there's not much they can do, and in the mean time, Atsuro's former tutor, Mari, is also in danger. It was her boyfriend and Kaido's older brother that was the victim of one of the bloodless murders - not surprisingly, one done by a demon. Out to seek revenge, she allowed another demon to reside within her. They manage to save her, but...arrive too late as Keisuke is killed by Kaido's Pazuzu.
Atsuro, unable to do anything as his friend dies at the hands of a demon, gives up on the idea of hacking into the summoning server and controlling the demons.
Soon, they learn of the real reasons behind the lockdown. The Shomonkai claims it is God's ordeal - the angels were the ones who ordered the lockdown. But the Shomonkai are also the ones who had Naoya create the demon summoning program and modified COMPs, and God certainly does have something to do with it. They bump into an old acquaintance of Atsuro who went missing while investigating Japan's PSE law and discover that the government intends to kill everyone - and every thing - within the lock down using electromagnetic waves. The reality that the lockdown must end or they'll all die is stark.
Which is, of course, when Naoya appears. He taunts them, makes them play his game, offers them information, and disappears. But regardless, he tells them that MC-kun could end the lockdown if he became the ruler of all demons...He just has to defeat the other Bels.
They do. They beat up Jezebel and Beliail, the power of Bel within them coming to riside within MC-kun instead. And then, they need to choose. On the morning of the seventh day, the last day, they need to decide. Amane, a maiden of the Shomonkai who has an angel inside her, asks MC-kun to become the chosen one, and help God. Yuzu wants to flee; with their demons, they could do it. Or...
MC-kun could become the King of Bel, and fight God. Atsuro will follow whatever MC-kun decides. Even if it means to, in a way, side with the demons. Yuzu and Midori aren't so understanding however, leaving the group. But the choice has been made. Now all that's left is to defeat the remaining Bels, summon Babel - the summoning server, ironically - and become King. And end the lockdown.
[Personality]
Atsuro is both intelligent and observant. A programming whiz, he has full confidence in his abilities and isn't shy about showing them off. He's good enough to crack Naoya's encryptions - or at least the ones that Naoya means for him to crack. It's not just programming - if he thinks he's right, he'll be going for broke. Bluffing or not, Atsuro is the sort who has confidence in himself.
Nor does he give up easily. He's ambitious, and prefers to have some degree of control over things. There's Naoya who wants MC-kun to become the demon king, there's the angels who want him to become the Messiah, and then there's Atsuro who has a solution that would make them no one's pawns but their own.
Despite that, Atsuro's not the leader type. He'll have ideas and observations and connections to make. He thinks a lot. Suggestions here and there, but he's not the one who makes the decisions. While he's confident in himself, he's only confident in things he knows he's good in - pulling leader mode is not one of them.
To put him simply, he's a computer otaku. Given his background of having grown up on the 'net, Atsuro's the sort of person who might as well live on it at times. Whether it's coding, forums, or BBS, not logging on for more than a day at a time can lead to serious internet withdrawal. Internet withdrawal is a very, very serious symptom. Very.
Despite being a complete otaku and internet nerd, Atsuro isn't a total shut-in. Not only does he sometimes meet up with online friends IRL, he has real life friends too! He's a little loud, a little outgoing, and sometimes teases a little too much - to the point where even the teachers think Yuzu's name is actually Yoohoo.
Overall, he's a nice guy. Friends are precious to him, and once his loyalty is given, it's not easily swayed, no matter what. Even if he doesn't believe it fully himself, he's put his trust in his friends - particularly MC-kun. Despite how much he teases Yuzu, he does his best to protect her from the dark reality of the lockdown. On the other hand, when it comes to Naoya, Atsuro respects him completely - but at the same time can't help but resent him a little for dragging MC-kun into this mess. He's also surprisingly mature - when he's not being immature. Not only from long association with adults since a child, the events of the lockdown have also accelerated his psychological growth.
[Specialties/Abilities] Any powers or special talents they may have :O
Atsuro is a tank. No, really. For a computer nerd, he's ridiculously strong. He can punch you out and take a couple hits no problem. Not that he'll go down with a spell either - he's surprisingly balanced for a physical guy. Must be the sheer awesome radiating from being Naoya's #1 apprentice.
Tech. No surprise there, having engineering parents and grown up with computers, Atsuro is purely adapted to the technological world of the twenty first century. He has a USB cable from his watch attached to his jacket - what it's actually for is questionable, but it's a pretty good indicator of his handiness with tech.
He's also pretty intelligent. Intelligent and observant don't make a bad combination when you get tossed into inexplicable situations.
