[He smiles a bit, trying to cheer his friend up.]

It's been a long time for all of us, hasn't it?

[And even if they do get back to their world... he can't exactly go home...]

Yeah...I guess it's worse for you, huh - I wonder what we'll be going back to...

[The feeling of missing a parent. Naoya can no longer relate to it in any way--he was so far detached from it all, but he remembers, dimly--

He had loved his mother--Eve. After so many centuries, she was still the one he thought of as his mother. But he'd lost so many others, and the last set he'd lost was still another bleeding wound. It hurt, but it was a pain he'd dealt with. He didn't miss them, simply because he couldn't.

He can't relate, but he does understand.]

...Atsuro. Remember that this is so that they'll always have a choice.

Haha... [He laughs weakly, trying to keep the tone light, before he just gives up.] I didn't realise that I missed them, huh...

It's natural. But you would have had to leave the nest and stand on your own sooner or later. This is simply a much more...dramatic separation.

Nah, it's not like I've been living with my parents at all lately anyway. I don't know what brought this on...

[Dramatic separation, huh? Well, that was one way to put "trapped in a dream world with no way to control how and when to leave".

...And he's been curious.]

I've wondered before - is there anyone you miss from home?

[It's bittersweet.

Because that's what missing someone is like. Doubly so when missing one's biological parents is something that he was both once all too familiar and now becoming more and more alien with, but the concept of missing was something he still understood rather clearly, to a point that LESS would be preferable.

...But anyway.]

Kihara-kun?

Ah, hey, Arisato-kun.

Guess I'm a little homesick, is all. [A quiet laugh.]

sounds like a deal. carpo_vita June 21 2010, 21:26:12 UTC
That's understandable: you've been here for a few months now. It's natural to miss loved ones, and you seem close with your family. [He smiles faintly, recalling briefly some friend back home who both got along and did not with their folks.]

Nah, I'm pretty independent, actually! They both work in Silicon Valley and English's never been my strong suit so I keep refusing to go.
