A couple weeks ago I randomly mosied over to Verizon.com and checked out their job listings. They had an open position at their call center about a half hour away from me. I attached my resume and filled out the rest of the application and went on my merry way!

I got a call the next day and did a phone interview. It went really well! The guy really seemed to like me. Even though I don't have experience in communications he said my knowledge of current phones and gadgets would get me far. He was right!

A couple days later I received a call to set up an assessment test with a POSSIBLE interview after the successful completion of the test.

The assessment test was crazy! There were 60 personal character questions like "I hate when people keep me waiting." and "Money means a lot to me." and stuff like that. There were some typing tests, multi-tasking exercises and questions in which I had to listen to a customer issue and choose which answer the representative said was best. It was very involved... Not tough but not easy, either. I passed! And I got the opportunity for an interview right after.

I did a one-on-one with a really nice woman named Pamela. She asked me a lot of questions pertaining to my past job experience and my knowledge of cell phones. It was in-depth and very informative. It lasted over an hour... I am pretty sure I nailed my interview with her, though. At the end, she asked me if, now that I knew more about the position, if I'd be interested in going further in the interview process. Of course I said yes!

I was set up with an interview with two managers an hour later. Neither of them were as nice as Pamela but each seemed professional. The interview with them was stupid, to say the least. I had to listen to some recorded real Verizon conversations and answer generic questions about them. It was nice and either way, good experience. I was told they'd be in contact with me within the next two weeks if I were to be offered a position.

I went home that day exhausted because I worked from 7:30 until 12 and then interviewed from 1 until 5:30! It was rough stuff but I felt really good afterward.

I got a call from the HR person at Verizon yesterday offering me a position! Woo hoo! It starts at $28,000 a year to start with potential for bonuses and profit sharing. Benefits start the first day!

I just did a peepee test and they're running a background check on me. If everything comes back clean I'll start October 4th!
