I managed to Wikilink myself over to a page about the My Lai Massacre.

It made me so angry and sad.  We all know war fucking sucks, but how can we understand the madness of it?  One of the soldiers was just 19, my age, when he was involved in it.  If you gave me, or any of my friends (and believe me, we're not all that well adjusted!) a gun and pointed us at some unarmed, innocent people and told us to kill them or be killed, I can swear that none of us would obey.

Maybe that just makes up really shit at following orders and we'll never get into any army but I'd like to think that makes us human.  Not that I'm saying the soldiers who were involved aren't human - maybe very ill adjusted to...morality, but I'm pretty sure they're human.  Of course, this was forty years ago, but I have a tendency to be fascinated, if appalled, by wars (mainly WWII).  I can't believe that only one of them was convicted.  How the hell does that work?!

I know that if I decided to be outraged by every war crime or any kind of violence in the world I would be a seriously angry person, but...well.  But.  Says it all doesn't it?

Anyway.  Had a good night out Friday.  Me, Amy, Anne-Michelle and a few of her mates just hanging out in town.  I havn't had a night like that in SO long.  Maybe it's because I usually have a full day of work and then a lesson and THEN I can get out that tends to make it a bit crap?  It was fun.  Just getting happy drunk and talking about bugger all!  Everyone was celebrating their results (By the way, I got a C in my Maths AS and I failed my Accounting!  Surprise!  Well, I got an E in one of the modules, but still and overall "U"!)

Ran into a shitload of people - Michael from down the road (yeah, just two doors down but I never see anyone from this damn street anymore!), Kia (oops!), Claire from Grangeway!  Sonya, Badger, Michael (from Qbury)...and I think there were others but I dont remember them!  Went to Winny, then Sugar Loaf and then to Cubes.  Cubes is MUCH smaller than I remember it being at the Xmas do two years ago, but I was quite a lot younger and more impressionable!  Me and Amy are both of the opinion to turn it back into a cinema.  I would ADORE a Future Shorts night each month or something.  That would ROCK.  A few tables and some waiters and a projector and we're set!

Talking to people on Friday has led to me relistening to a bunch of music!  I always get stuck in ruts!  Too much goodness!  Anyway, I listened to Metric's other album that I have burnt onto mah computer and it's almost better than the one I'd been listening to previously!  *Doh*

I couldn't sleep last night at all.  May have had something to do with the fact that I got in Saturday morning at 5am and then slept til about 4pm.  Anyway, I decided to finish off Neverwhere (SO GOOD!) and I put on the Wake Up CD that "fell off" the front of Uncut a few months back (one of the only perks of tidying the news!)  Wowzer!  I really wish I'd caught Beirut at Glasto now.  And I should have gone to see Final Fantasy at Latitude.  Ah well.  There's some other really good stuff on there, but those two stand out so much to me!

Started on American Gods finally.  It seems to be my kind of book.  I've always been fairly fascinated with Mythology even when I "lost faith" in Christianity (can I say that if I never consciously believed in it?  I didn't really know what was going on as a kid)  Blame it on the books I used to read - there was an underlying Norse theme in some Point Horror books I read on holiday and then I took up The Wyrd Sister trilogy!  But it is fascinating in it's own right.

Talking of books, this scene came to me last night and I couldn't remember whether it was from a book or a TV show (I don't think it was a film)  The main gist is some traveling guy (who is probably the protagonist and is pretty important, but I cant remember why)  is in the mountains, trekking and is WAY more tired than he realises (Typical man!) also, possibly injured.  He comes across a gypsy woman who has a pet goat (I think it's a goat)  I remember the pet/familiar goat being slaughtered to help the guys strength.  I had a quick scan of my books but I have so many in "storage" (ie. stacked in the little back room, covered in other crap) and it seems like a book I read so long ago that I could well have gotten it from the library.  Maybe it's one of mums.  I don't know.

My BPAL is getting a wee out of hand.  I keep buying 5ml bottles on eBay.  To be fair, out of four so far, only one was a GC but it's getting bad.  I used to be super in to Pokemon as well.  So that gives you a sign as to how manic this shopping spree could get!

Ooops - I meant to post this at about 2ish but I fell asleep!
