Nothing much has happened since I last updated except two things:
1. Clothes
Yes, I brought clothes that didn't fit me. Not to mention the fact that I was well aware of the rule-of-thumb for buying clothing: TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. This is usually an issue for internet shoppers, however, I have rarely encoutered this problem and the irony here is that I actually 'physically' went to a shop and brought the shirt. I was in a rush at the time and it was the size that I usually buy so I assumed that it would fit...I was wrong. It was tight and the collar didn't look great on me. It is likely that I wont be wearing this shirt at all but it wasn't expensive so I guess the lesson came at a cheap price...
2. Bags
I'm puzzled. I never liked carrying bags, I find them a hassle however, I can't do anything about it because female wallets are massive and I just can't fit it and my phone, keys, other stuff in the same pair of pants without looking...weird.
I'm not chic, I don't try and pretend that I know anything about fashion because it would just make me look even more clueless. I admit that this may sound shallow and nobody should ever require the approval of others on what they wear, I mean it's a free world! BUT I've realised that my perceptions/ decisions are often moved by what I see around me and well, my excuse is that observation is the starting point to learning anything and I do want to appear 'in-style' for various reasons (eg. work, peers etc).
I only need a bag that I can fit my wallet, phone, keys, notepad, a few vanity items (brush, mirror etc) and a drink bottle. Realistically, a small bag would suffice. So, why did I go and buy a large bag a year ago??
I observed a lot of bags that women around me carry and also from online sources. Of course, there's hundreds of different styles and types but I couldn't help noticing the prominence of LARGE bags. It seems that women are supposed to have A LOT of stuff to carry (?). I only occupied less than 50% of space in the bag (on average) and all my stuff just goes flying around inside! But I brought one because it seemed to be what the "others" were doing *head desk*
I actually used the BIG BAG for quite some time. I'm not a "habitual bag-changer" like most people. The reason: I'm just too lazy and don't see the value of emptying and swapping bags just to match my clothes for the day. It's just too much effort for the empty satisfaction of peer approval (hmm...I sense hypocrisy...).
After a year of fumbling around for my phone in the sea of my bag, I feel like it's time to change but I've no clue what bag to buy this time. All I see (still) are these massive shoulder bags & totes with, in my opinion, ifinite space! At the back of my mind, I continue to chant "function over form" but the other parts tell me to "follow the herd" and buy what the others are getting.
Hmm...tough call, fit in or be different & (possibly) despised.
I should really learn from my mistakes XP
