Science ROCKS!!!

This is the coolest thing EVER!!  We have our 'back-up plan' in place now.  We have more than enough uh... "Lil' Jimmy's" and enough uh...  "Lil' Nico's" frozen away now.  Next Friday, Jim goes for his vacetomy.  Too cool.

NOW:

IF we decide to have a child/children it will be on our own terms.  Artificial Insemination is covered under my freakin ( Read more... )

One small correction. There is no conception involved in our plan at this stage. Our genetic pieces are held seperatly, so no one can say we're "freezing children" Otherwise, Jim's been flushing his babies for years :) With such a controversial "life-choice" I am making sure to be extra, extra clear on this point.

All life is precious and we feel that too many children are brought into the world to people who didn't want them. Then we get serial killers and Carrot-Top. With what we've seen with the 258741 children Joanne takes care of, well, it would break you heart. Jim and I are all about adoption too. Hell ya. And when I need my "kid fix" I go over and run around and play in the dirt, and give them back all tuckered out, and then! Go home. It may seem selfish to some, but there are just as many reasons to not have children as there are to have them. And who makes a better baby-sitter than the aunt/uncle who have no kids? They probably don't have important plans like most parents need to have. Christene is thrilled.

Life is life. There is no way to disagree with that. Life starting at conception is one way to look at it, and I don't disagree. Luckily, I've never been in a position to need to put that to the test. If I had ever been pregnant, I would have a baby now. No worries there. When I say it may be possible to chose a sex, I in no way mean to destroy something that is life in any form because of something as trivial as a sex. I just mean it is *almost* possible in our Star Trek universe and I think science is pretty damn cool. (thus, my weekend addiction to playing with yeast strains) Eggs are individually conceived, then placed. There are no extra conceived eggs lying around, I agree, that's messed up.

Thanks for you post! Please let me know if I've quelled your concerns or you just think we're fucked up. Love you guys!

After I posted, I re-read and realized it was genectic material, and
not embryos, so that is different. I still feel nature is the way
to make babies, and science is not. I also say again, there's nothing
wrong with not having babies or children if you don't want to. Too
many people on the planet already, anyway. And P.S., not that your
brother and I get out of Orange, but don't forget to send us your
new address.

As soon as everything is official, I'll pop it around.
