Where they were headed was beyond him; Kid didn't dare ask. Nor did he care, really. Being separated from Shibusen again, it should have been heart breaking and painful, yet...
Kid glanced upwards at the collector beside him. Everything he had been told about Shibusen and its secrets, they still weren't enough. Now that he knew what they were, he wanted to know why. But asking Noah could be risky. The man tended to take Kid's questions, and completely change the subject. Just like Shinigami. Kid decided to take that annoying risk.
"...Noah?"
"Yes?" he answered simply, staring forward into the dawn-lit forest ahead of them. They were trudging along a darkened path in the woods, abandoning the church behind them. It was the first time in a while either of the two spoke.
"About Shinigami..."
"What about him?" Noah smirked. "Wasn't he happy to see you, Kid?"
The teen didn't know how to respond. Noah already knew the answer to that; he just wanted to make sure Kid understood. Shinigami was as deceptive and deceitful as his many fellow Death Scythes. Kid couldn't help but feel that his friends were traveling down that twisted path as well.
"I'm sorry, Kid," he dragged Kid to his side, holding him there as they continued walking. "I know you just want to get rid of it all, huh?" The meister frowned as he remembered Soul briskly saying that too, before they all went clubbing.
"Don't worry, though," Noah continued. "Once we reach Justin and Giriko, we'll set our plan against Shinigami in motion..."
The question Kid should have asked is 'what plan?’ But instead, he asked, "What happened to Gopher?" This caused an uproarious laughter from Noah, only making Kid frown in frustration. "What?"
"Gopher? He's long gone," the man calmed down to a chuckle. "I thought you hated him."
Long gone? How long was Kid away from Noah? "What do you mean? I never really hated him..."
"Oh, well," Noah sighed, his arm hugging Kid closer. "I didn't like the fact that he was still damaging my collection, even after I told him to refrain from doing so."
Kid shouldn't have felt so relaxed with Noah; he should have tried to escape and run away, even if he got injured in the process. Something anchored him to Noah though, he wasn't sure what. "...What happened to him?"
"I got rid of him," Noah stated in a monotone voice. When he peered over at Kid's confused face, he added, "You know, discarded of. Thrown away. Like trash. Garbage. He was no longer of use."
The last sentence frightened Kid. What would happen if Noah thought the same of him? Would he throw him back to Shibusen? The deep fear and anger he felt towards Shinigami, how could he ever face him again? Unless, in a death sentence of course. The god's death sentence. Kid blinked suddenly, and shuddered at his previous thoughts. Sure, he hated the reaper... But killing him? Wanting him dead? Staring at his hands, he wondered for a moment, what it would feel like to kill the one who had raised him all his life...
"Kid?"
The teen jolted, still pressed close against Noah. He tended to space out a lot, lately. Stein's statement from before momentarily flashed in his head. "Uh, what?"
"We're here," Noah announced, his voice clearly full of anticipation and amusement. "Back home." He extended his free arm, as if presenting, and held it out to the vast area in front of them. The first gothic church Kid was taken to. The one where he had been stripped of his powers. And given back to his true 'father'. Asura.

"You know what I don't get?" Liz growled, stomping her way to the Death Room with the others.
"What...?" Maka exhaled, trying to keep up with the demon gun's pace. Tsubaki, Patti, Soul, and Black Star practically had to jog if they wanted to stay within a foot of Liz.
"Every time I'm someplace new, at some club, and I'm near a mirror, Shinigami-sama pops up and scolds me!" she huffed, grinding her teeth together. "How can he find me?! I discover a new club, and yet he knows where I am!"
"What's that got to do with anything?" Black Star started running backwards, facing Liz now.
Stopping abruptly, Liz stared at the ninja in shock. The others halted just in time from crashing into the bewildered girl. "Are you serious?!"
"What?" Black Star mumbled, crossing his arms.
Taking a deep breath, the tall teen started, "Think about it. I go to this random place, sometimes not even in Death City, and some freakin' how Shinigami always manages to find me!"
There was a silent pause before she continued in a small breath, "So why couldn’t he find Kid?"

"Stein."
The three star meister turned once more, facing Shinigami-sama. "Yes?" They had been discussing what to do about Noah, and Kid, much to Stein's discomfort.
"You know what to say if the other students ask about him, right?" All cheerfulness and joy were excluded from his statement, only the harsh cold words were left behind.
Maka, Soul, Liz, Patti, Tsubaki, Black Star... His students. He was their beloved, crazy teacher. And they trusted him, even more so than himself. "I ...understand."
"Good, good. ~" The reaper bounced, adding his cleverly masked, friendly tone to his voice again. It amazed Stein how he could live so easily in his web of lies. No wonder Kid was acting strange; Noah probably told him about the stuff Shinigami had Stein do, as well.
The scientist sighed, adjusting his glasses. He never wanted to lose another one of his students like that. Even if it meant getting rid of that one first...
"Shinigami-sama!"
The reaper and meister turned around quickly, finding the group they were just talking about running towards them.
"Yes, yes? How may I help you~?" Shinigami-sama tilted his head from side to side, his voice high with faked curiosity. Stein silently pulled out another cigarette. These were the only things that helped him tolerate the mysterious god.
"Shinigami-sama, we --" Maka was gently pushed back, Liz stepping forward.
"Shinigami-sama... We've ...lost Kid again..." her voice was dry, but stable. "I'm sorry... I know you told us to watch him, I just..." She couldn't hold back the tears that forced their way out. Tsubaki held her softly as she started wailing again.
Shinigami just loomed over the group of teens, staring calming down at them. He took one of his enormous hands and patted Liz on the head reassuringly. Stein stood off to the side, smoking his cigarette, wondering if the reaper actually cared. Or if it was another act. Hell, if he had as much freedom as Kid, he could have been out of Shibusen, started a new life, and raise a family in Africa.
Maka sniffed, and Soul wrapped his arm around her shoulder. Exhaling more smoke, Stein knew he wouldn't do that anyway. His students, innocent kids; they can't end up like him and Spirit. Bringing the cancer stick to his mouth once more, he knew that that was the only reason he'd really stay. Same as Marie.
"What are we going to do?" Tsubaki whispered, since none of the other teens knew what to say, or how to say it. "Kid-kun is missing again... And we don't have any leads..."
"Eh... Tsubaki-chan," Shinigami straightened up, opening up his arms to the group huddled around him. "Everyone. I have to tell you something."
The depressed weapons and meisters looked up expectantly, even Stein, at the reaper. The three star meister narrowed his eyes slowly, making sure Shinigami didn't notice his scrutinizing face.
"What? You know something?" The hope was evident in Black Star's voice.
"Well, kinda. ~"
"Then tell us already, bastard --" Liz immediately clamped a hand over her sister's mouth.
"I-I'm so sorry, S-Shinigami-sama..." she stuttered.
"That doesn't matter Liz-chan..." The teens noticed the sudden change in voice. "You know Noah had taken Kid, correct?"
Shinigami's tone was dark, frightening almost, as he said those words. The group just nodded solemnly, as they trembled slightly, in the presence of Shinigami's creepy mood.
"And what about it...?" Black Star mumbled, barely coherent. He had a bad feeling about the reaper's aura...
"Kid ...is now dead."

And to all the silent readers out there, REVIEW please. That would be awesomeness.
And the theme 'changing' is based on how much the characters are changing. Just if I needed to explain that.~
