1.very few people actually like or love music...most just use it as a backround to their own emotions as to identify with the sanctity of woe. 2.i play in public venues, sell c.d.'s,and the only high i ever get is being on stage. you know that i don't do it for "fame".don't get me wrong..i'd love to be able to feed whatever future family is by playing busic..but that's because i love to do it.i sell my c.d.'s for cheap so i can make whatever money i can off of it at present...not to mention ensure future recordings to share my music with my friends, family and strangers.you could say that i can give it away for free...which we did for the first three demos..but in order to make the best career out of this possible, you have to make money when you can. It's not selling out to feed your family. Music is not solely passion and emotion, it's organization, strife, hard work, persistance and you may not think much of it ..but talent as wel.. talent doesn't necessarily mean razzle dazzle, although i will agree some acts thrive on that notion.
talent is a blessing that is gained through love, aspiration and true color into whatever field you may posess it.i,for example, have been playing drums for 7 years...the things i do on drums aren't just skittish movements to a beat so i can look impressive and crowd-worthy, they are the many beats and rhythms i have come to hear in tempos over the years i have beating the shit out of my wood tubes wrapped in plastic.
3.you can never have a band or anything of the sort that's "all about the music" because music is a lifestyle, and a significant snippet of culture as we know it. it involves more than just the artform itself. it involves the people(fans or musicians),the places, the messages(although i don't believe in music with a message),the marketing(unfortunately) and sometimes just the style. like religion, movies, even just normal table manners and all other facets of culture..it can't be all about one thing. i'd like to hear a religion say "oh yeah, we're all about god, nothing else"
i play music well, not great..but well enough to the point where i am no longer a beginner, but i am still an amateur. i didn't take offense to what you said, and even though i used myself as an example, i know you're not pointing the finger at me.i,as a musician on various levels, don't disagree with you but feel that you need clarity on the subject of what it is to play music in front of people and for money.
i'm not getting on a high horse either..i'm not stating that i'm better and have a greater understanding of music as a whole just because i'm in a band that's been lucky enough to get shows...so don't take this that way, you know me better than that
my point is..music is not something that can be defined. like most art it is ever changing, accelerating, and derived from seperate and sometimes conjoined human emotions. everything falls into the category of music these days, and it's only getting more complicated, more loud, and more specific.
like you said, it's a double edged sword..but it's one that i whole heartedly accept.
i mean ,if there are so many possibilities in a particular field, if you'd like to excel and make a difference, you have to embrace it..
1. i agree with 100% 2. ok this is where it get harder to explain, but please bare with me, see the high you get off stage is the engery of the people and how they react toward your music,"Fame" (sorry to use the trem so loosely) but thats about how others make you feel about yourself. that diffrent that a feeling deep with in when you create a pice. also music should be free, at most make them at the absolue minimum price so you dont go in dept. also making music out of love means that u create it for you. i mean i hear where everyones comming from to do nothing but make music must mean you love it. right.... but thet fact is if love music you do it of that and only that. not to make a buck. some of the of the greatest musisans will never be heard out side of there room but they dont care they do it for it
yes talent is a big thing and doesnt mean razzle dazzle but the second you start to glot to poeple how u can do all kinds of crazy things u do it for reactions (people)
well i guess you get what i am trying to say but i will recorrect my statment its not that peopl dont love music that just arent as true to form
