Still Dry

A drought can bring so many thoughts to the mind about life without water falling
from the sky, or an eternity without rain. I think I would go bezerk; Ive lived
in the tropics of America for forty years, and no we cant get so much as a five
minute shower for reassurance. WE are surely cursed by our weather forecasters
that we put so much stock into. Think about how many times youve turned the
teevee on, to arrange your day according to the conditions that we have no
control over. We wait through the insulting commercials for the official
five day forecast. We sit through Mr. Magoos ramblings at a break neck ear level
that even Grandma has to turn the hearing aid down, and he rolls over any
articulation with slurring and mealy mouthing the words. Senseless blather
again...and if the clouds appear on the graphic icons, you can believe
there will be not an ounce of rain in the bucket this season. I guess
its just our time for this. Before, it was way too much rain, flooding
and mass potholes in the asphalt. Now, our crops are destroyed...and even
the herbs are looking pathetic as we hand water two times daily. The
squirrels are so parched they bit into the magnolia seed pod while it was
still green hoping for green beer, maybe, some relief from the wind that
feels like we're being tossed into the Kenmore laundry dryer. I cannot
think what it must feel like to be without a home to find shelter from this
heat. Ive seen some homeless people camping at the beach when we went
fishing on fathers day. By the way, I caught three crabs on my line that
day.The salt water felt especially briney went the wake would splash us from
boats moving by too fast, but it was a relief to feel natural water,
without the hardness of floride and chlorine, just water, and salt
and sand and microbes, and algea, and tinytown stuff. We are living
in a hot house now without the precipitator intact...sometimes, I feel
like Im wilting!
