[Title] Being the Loser
[Fandom] Cruel Intentions
[Rating] PG-13 for language and mention of sex
[Notes/Summary] Post-movie; Cecile has a chance meeting with Kathryn. Sorry to post so much, but I'll be away later on in Lent so I want to do lots now ^^

Cecile doesn't realise it's Kathryn at first. She just registers this thin dark-haired girl swiping a lipstick, tucking it into her expensive-looking but kinda battered handbag. So she stops to look, amused, because she remembers when she did this - when she was like twelve, thinking it was cool - she was at least a bit less obvious, and this girl must be like eighteen -

Then the girl notices her looking and stares back and it's her.

Cecile just gapes like an idiot for a moment. She always figured if she ever did see Kathryn again, she'd have someone else with her, like Ronald who she knows will always protect her or even Annette Hargrove who's been way scarier than Kathryn ever since her first day of school. But no, it's definitely Kathryn, and Cecile is like definitely on her own in the make-up aisle, and there isn't even a store clerk around or anything.

For a moment they just look at each other. Cecile doesn't see the point in being all fake-charming like her mother would be. Kathryn wouldn't buy it. Besides, Kathryn's like the queen of fake charm.

Or was. She's thinner now than she was - and that's saying something - face all bony, eyes huge, and yet she still looks hot - well, pretty. Yeah. But she must be real bony underneath her clothes. Cecile wonders if you can see all her ribs and stuff.

"Long time no see," Kathryn says at last, boredly, and picks up one of the tester lipsticks and starts putting it on her actual lips. "That's gross," Cecile has said before she can think. And Kathryn rolls her eyes and says, "Going to call the security guard?"

"I saw -" Cecile lowers her voice - "I saw you pinch one. I - I heard you got your allowance stopped and all but - but..." If the positions were reversed, Kathryn would be able to follow through with some really harsh comment, but Cecile can't think of one.

Kathryn raises her eyebrows. "And haven't you grown up into a sweet little moral crusader." It's not like a really mean line or anything, but Cecile can hear all the memories tied up in it. Like, that this girl standing opposite her actually wanted to ruin her life, ruin her actual life, and pretty much would've managed it if it hadn't been for that journal. Like that Kathryn remembers what a dork Cecile was and could quote back all that stuff (she's blushing now, shit) about orgasms and - and love letters and - yeah, stuff. Like that -

"Ronald told me you fucked him," she says, wishing she could sound as ice-cool as Kathryn (not fair, Kathryn's the one whose life got ruined, she should be ashamed). "He said you were - you were boring."

Kathryn smiles. On her bony face it looks like a snake's. Cecile realises suddenly - odd how she only gets this now, not when she and Kathryn were still friends - that she is so out of her depth it's like not even funny.

"Ronald was pretty dull himself," Kathryn says. "Did you tell him I kissed you?"

Oh god really blushing now. Like, 'cause she hasn't told Ronald about that kiss. 'Cause it seems stupid, you know? S'okay to say Sebastian fucked me and I did like it even though it hurt because, like, it was Sebastian, he'd been irresistable. (When he was alive, duh.) And s'okay for Ronald to say the same kind of stuff about Kathryn. But it's not okay to say Kathryn kissed me and it was amazing because - oh, loads of reasons. Kathryn's a girl and it was only kissing and blah blah blah.

(She kind of wishes they'd done more. Then she could say I fucked Kathryn. Funny how that word works. Sebastian fucked her and Kathryn fucked Ronald and Cecile figures she and Ronald fuck each other and damn it, she wants to have fucked Kathryn, or at least have had Kathryn fuck her, it's not fair to have been screwed over with just a kiss.)

('Cause like she's asked around - not obviously or anything, just casual - and found out most girls don't practise kissing on their friends. And everyone knows what you call the ones that do.)

She wonders again about Kathryn's ribs, hips, spine.

"I... why would I tell him that?" she manages to say. "It wasn't important."

"No," Kathryn calls after her - she's fleeing, okay, fine, she was out of her depth all along - "I could see how important you didn't find it at the time."
