Title: Normality
Fandom: Willard Price's Adventure Series
Rating: G
Word Count: 126
Summary: Roger doesn't really care about normality.

“Do you ever wish you’d had a normal childhood?”

In Roger’s view, it was the silliest question that he’d ever been asked. A normal childhood? His childhood had been normal - well, if your father was a famous naturalist anyway.

Besides, who wouldn’t want a childhood which didn’t involve being arm-deep in furry animals or climbing into tiger pens or trying to coax escaped birds down from trees? Who wouldn’t want to travel all over the world, see different people, different places?

All right, maybe it did mean he’d had a few more interesting injuries than some people his age. But Roger knew without a doubt that every bite and bruise and scratch had been worth it.

No. He never once wished he’d had a normal childhood.

Title: Fur Sample
Fandom: X-Men/Fringe
Rating: PG
Word Count: 900
Summary: Olivia meets a rather unusual ... being.

Olivia tried not to stare.

Every time she thought she was used to all of this, something happened to try and challenge that. This was probably one of the least offensive challenges in many ways. It was just … very surprising to see a large blue furry creature in the middle of Boston.

It was perhaps less surprising that the creature was now basically lying on top of her. But more surprising that the creature was whispering in a very human sounding voice “Stay down. Be quiet, please. I won’t hurt you but they will.”

Since they had been apparently trying to shoot … something at her a minute ago, Olivia believed that. Besides, there was very little point in struggling, the large blue arm that pinned her was very strong. She experimented a little, attempting to roll over. The arm shifted politely so that she could move as she wished - as long as she did not try to get up. At least that told her that the creature wanted her to trust it. Which didn’t mean it could be trusted but it was being kinder than some people she knew.

It didn’t really matter which position she was in though, she couldn’t see what her attackers were now doing. She lay still and quiet, glad that she could still feel her gun at her side. It might not do any good but she felt better knowing it was there.

“I think they’re gone,” Big Blue murmured at last. “I’m terribly sorry that I knocked you over that way, are you all right?”

“Quite all right,” she said but she didn’t think he believed her. He was giving her an anxious look and offered one big paw. Olivia accepted it, noticing that he only had three unusually thick fingers. He helped her very carefully to her feet and looked at her, obviously trying to see if she was hiding pain.

“You should go home now. It’s not quite safe around here tonight.”

“I’m an FBI agent,” Olivia said. “I’m quite used to handling things that are a bit strange.”

Big Blue smiled, showing off long white fangs. Somehow, the smile managed to be friendly despite that.

“That’s quite clear. Most people get a lot more upset when they meet me!”

“Oh, I’ve met far worse, believe me,” Olivia said, wondering if there was any way of politely asking why he was large, blue and furry. She suspected that there probably wasn’t.

“My name’s Olivia Dunham,” she said instead and held out her hand. Big Blue blinked, obviously surprised at the manners, then offered out his own hand.

“I’m Doctor Hank McCoy,” he said and shook her hand gently. Olivia frowned as her memory flickered. She’d heard that name before, she knew that name …

“Doctor Hank McCoy ... don’t you write to Walter Bishop?”

Doctor McCoy blinked.

“I … do actually, yes. You know him?”

“Yes. He works with me, actually.”

Doctor McCoy smiled that toothy smile. Olivia got the feeling there was a certain amount of amusement in it.

“Then do send him my warmest regards. However, the answer to his question is still no. Are you sure you can get yourself home safely? I would be happy to walk you there.”

“No, I’m fine, really,” Olivia said. “Thanks for the rescue.”

Doctor McCoy nodded, then sprang upwards, grabbing a windowsill and lifting himself effortlessly onto a roof, bounding away. Olivia watched him go, then slowly made her own way home, resolving to ask Walter about his friend as soon as she could.

*

“Doctor Hank McCoy?” Walter practically wailed at her. “Why didn’t you bring him to the lab? I have been wanting to meet him for quite some time. Brilliant mind, brilliant! Belly and I invited him to come and take part in some experiments but he was otherwise engaged at the time. Such a pity, such a pity.”

“Did you know he was blue and furry?” Olivia asked. Peter rolled his eyes.

“Oh yes. He knew.”

“Of course I knew,” Walter said, sounding indignant. “Mutation is a wonderful thing, wonderful. One of the things that I was rather hoping to do was a vivisection but for some reason, Doctor McCoy said no …”

“For some reason,” Peter repeated incredulously. “Walter, on the whole, it is not considered good manners in polite society to ask if you can vivisect people!”

“Oh Peter, don’t be silly, Doctor McCoy is a scientist, he’s not constrained by your petty ideas. I am sure he would have been glad to be vivisected and I would have put him back together afterwards …”

“He said the answer was still no,” Olivia said, pretty certain she now knew exactly what the question had been.

“Oh,” Walter said, looking momentarily crestfallen. “Oh. Well, if he’s still chasing that Brotherhood around, I expect he hasn’t really got time for the recuperation. Pity though. I wonder if he would let me take a little sample of his fur … Olivia, I don’t suppose any of it stuck to your clothes?”

“Didn’t notice. Sorry,” Olivia said, quickly resolving to put the suit through the wash as soon as possible. Walter gave a sigh and shook his head, probably disapproving of her lack of forethought.

Because obviously, any sensible person that met a strange blue furry creature who was strangely polite would remember to take a fur sample.

Title: In the Stars
Fandom: Thunderbirds/X-Men
Rating: G
Word Count: 489
Summary: John Tracy sees another lonely man in space.

John Tracy liked to look through his telescope at the stars.

On the best things about being on Thunderbird 5 was the observation deck. He could sit in there for hours, watching the stars, the galaxies beyond. It was beautiful and fascinating and he never minded being alone if he was looking at the stars.

It was a little surprising to discover he was less alone than he’d thought.

There were, of course, thousands of satellites, both around the Earth and further out. They had people on too but John never really thought about them as people. It wasn’t like he could really see them.

This man, however, he could see. Just … standing there on an asteroid, all alone. John supposed there had to be some sort of force field to keep the air in - either that, or the man did not require oxygen, which didn’t seem particularly likely (although anything was possible these days.) He was wearing a rather odd outfit of red and purple and looked … well, lonely. Possibly because he was standing in the middle of a largely empty asteroid.

John felt rather sorry for him. It couldn’t be very nice to be living on an asteroid alone. The man didn’t even seem to have the benefit of a proper telescope or a way to note down any scientific observations …

John smiled. He had an idea.

*

Magneto told himself quite firmly that he did not miss anybody. He was quite content on Asteroid M, it was a very good home. And entirely lacking in humans, which was a bonus.

It was, potentially, a little cold. And potentially a tiny bit lonely. But once he’d actually built it, it would be a sanctuary for any mutant who didn’t want to be surrounded by humanity. Once he’d built it.

It was hard to ignore the fact that currently, he was just a mutant on an asteroid with a rather large M carved into it.

Just as he was perhaps putting a little more thought into this than he ought to, a pod arrived.

Magneto was rather surprised by the arrival of a pod. He hadn’t actually requested anything and the markings on the pod were very unfamiliar. He checked it with his powers before opening it, then opened it with his power at a safe distance. After there was no explosion, he came to look at it properly.

A telescope. A rather powerful one. With a tag containing coordinates and a simple note saying “You’re welcome.”

Magneto ignored it for a bit. Then he set the telescope up and followed the co-ordinates exactly.

The satellite he found himself staring out at was an interesting shape. The logo was also familiar to him - even Magneto had come across International Rescue. The blond man sitting in the observation deck waved in a friendly fashion.

Magneto assured himself it was pure reflex that made him wave back.
