Summary: Jo asks the Doctor about his tattoo.
“Where did you get the tattoo, Doctor?” Jo asked as they sat in a cell together. The Doctor had removed his jacket and rolled up his shirt sleeves, meaning the tattoo was on display as he worked on picking the lock.
“Oh, that.” The Doctor sound rather embarrassed. “It er … well, it was rather an impulsive moment in my youth, truth be told. It’s supposed to be an exact replica of the tattoo the Great Fisfrandan had, you know.”
“Who’s the Great Fisfrandan?” Jo asked, knowing he wanted her to.
“The Great Fisfrandan was a rather rebellious Time Lord,” the Doctor said, sounding pleased that she’d asked. “He was a bit of a mischief maker - liked to cause trouble, reprogram teaching machines to spit out nonsense, that kind of thing. My friends and I rather admired him in those days and his tattoo was well known. Of course, I got rid of it years ago but the Time Lords didn’t know that so when they forced this regeneration upon me, they gave me the tattoo.”
“Well, I think it looks lovely,” Jo said reassuringly. “Very dashing.”
“Don’t be silly,” the Doctor said. He looked terribly pleased at the compliment.

Summary: Nanami pretends that he's never had a tattoo.
Nanami was good at pretending he’d never had any tattoos.
When he painted them on himself or his students, he mentioned how getting it done with needles would probably hurt a lot more. He mentioned it was good to be able to peel them off after you got sick of them. As far as he knew, nobody expect Dan-sensei knew any different (Renjo-san had known too but Renjo-san was dead)
He never wanted anybody else to know. Not the students. Never, ever Hongou. He kept the tattoo covered up almost all the time, tried to pretend that it wasn’t there at all. He’d been a kid. It had been a mistake. He didn’t have to think about it.
But sometimes, he had to wash the makeup off and then he saw the Pluto tattoo on his wrist and he had to remember. He has to admit to himself that the greatest mistake in his life cost somebody else theirs. And that some youthful mistakes lasted just as long as a tattoo did.

Summary: John asks Derek about his tattoos.
“Where did you get the tattoos?” John asked.
Derek paused for a moment before answering. It was often a bit hard to know what to say to John. He had to quickly run through things in his mind, work out what was best to say and how best to say it. John was so important, he mattered so much … it was hard to balance out everything in his mind.
“I mean, you were too young to get them before Judgement Day, weren’t you?” John said, sounding a little nervous, as though Derek might think he was prying.
“Yes,” Derek said quickly. “I got them in the sewers. Lots of people did. Stupid really. Saw more than one person get sick from dodgy needles.”
“Does Future!Me have any tattoos?” John asked.
“No,” Derek said. “Never.”
John looked oddly fed up at the answer and it took Derek some time to work out why. If Future!John didn’t have tattoo, John couldn’t get one if he wanted to. Or if he did, he changed time which he needed to decide if he wanted to do that or not.
Everything you told John about Future!John made his world smaller.
