150803 Please Pass the Electrolytes

Aug 03, 2015 16:36

While dealing with the beans and rice I so foolishly ate on Friday, I coined a new phrase for myself: gut bombs. WebMD told me to replace lost electrolytes. In chemistry, water and 'salt' make electrolytes. The human body specifically needs NaCl to live. While most medical sites say to drink juice, I found a natural site that bluntly says to eat sea salt, and then have a banana. Good advice. Sodium (Na), Chloride (Cl), and Potassium (K) help the body flush out poisons and need to be replaced after flushing. Lack of these elements can lead to heart stoppage.

Halite tastes really bad, but most of the salt sold in stores and served in restaurants is that mineral. If your sea salt tastes like next to nothing, or your vegetable salt tastes sweet, you have a sodium deficiency. I just ate some sea salt. It made my tongue tingle, but I didn't taste anything. Pass the electrolytes, please.
