Sofia still hasn't responded to the message he left her on the first day of the event. So, in between the rigours of babysitting, Alex and Tiny Mark made time to check up on her.
Mark only comes with a lot of "aww" and "do we have to", but he still trails along, alternately dragging his heels and clinging to Alex all the way to the clinic. He doesn't want Lamb to see him, even if she's going to be nice. It's pretend-nice, he's pretty sure.
But he knows Alex is friends with her -- was friends with her. So now he's holding Alex's hand and looking up at him anxiously, one set of concerns replaced by another.
Because the practice and her room are empty. Featureless. They show no sign of ever having been lived in.
Alex stops moving. Stares. Says a couple of child-unfriendly words and then continues to stand there in the doorway of Sofia's room, staring as if his heart's just stopped.
The wall communicator stands silently on, broadcasting their arrival.
