So, to start, this is very good and you should know that! :) Also, little things about it made it read as actually British, like "cheeky." And listening to the Sufjan song, I totally get what you mean about that verse! It's just so them (and so heartbreaking).
Favorite part of the whole thing:
"The next time we meet, I'll have a new face," he says this seriously, as if he's been diagnosed with some horrible disease, and now she really does giggle, if somewhat nervously.
"You've done that before," River remembers, tracing the pattern of his celery green collar. "Just before--well, I was rather young. You got angry with me for mentioning."
I don't know why, but I love the idea of the Doctor getting angry with an impetuous younger River for asking questions. We forget that he's not a nice guy all the time, but I think River remembers it better than most... I get the feeling that she's seen a part of the Doctor that most people haven't -- even if only because most people, on seeing that side of him, would turn tail and run. I'm

i really do love them; i didn't realize until i really thought about it how incredibly patient river must be in order to make this relationship work (especially when i consider how insanely impatient the doctor can be). i came up with all sorts of headcanon thanks to this project (so feel free to skip this next part as i elaborate). i definitely feel that she fell in love with a doctor who wasn't eleven. in my mind, the "jim the fish" incident has just happened (though river references it almost constantly) and the doctor is looking forward to asking her about it for years to come in order to get back at her for asking him about it so many times though she knew it was so late in for him. eleven's transition to twelve was the first big secret river had to keep from him, and this instance marks the start of her knowing more (important) things than the doctor. it also occurred to me that finding him in history is more fun than the fairy tales she mentions.
