So, then. An update on things.
My show went up and was a big success. My actors enjoyed acting in it, my audiences enjoyed seeing it, and I enjoyed putting it together. I've received a lot of very positive feedback on the whole thing and gained a new level of respect from a lot of people in the theatre here. I'm pleased, and I plan to do it again.
Furthermore, at the encouragement of one of my professors, I have finally gotten around to submitting some poetry for publication. I had a professor--Pellow, for you UCCS folk--take a look at about six of my poems and he responded with encouragement. He said one of them--Words for the Honored--was ready for publication as-is and the remainder only needed some small amount of "tinkering," in his words, before they were really ready to be sent out. I took his advice, did some work on them, and off they go.
I'm also in the middle of writing a play based on a story I wrote late last month. I had a talk with Justin, my roommate, and really fleshed out a lot of what I intend the play to mean. Now, I just have to make the words work. I'm actually enjoying the process--I know that I'm lacking polish, but that will get worked out later. For now, I'm just glad to be glad to be writing.
I'm really enjoying this surge of creativity that has taken over me in the past couple of weeks. Directing has really invigorated my muse, as it were, and she's cranking out ideas left and right. Not only that, but I'm actually doing something with it--not just writing for the sake of it, which is fine, but attempting to get it read, which is also fine. We shall see.
I'm going to pitch my bid for directing next semester and see what happens. With some luck, I'll get a green-light and get to do a more ambitious project. We'll see what happens, but I'm hoping to capitalize on this wave of awesome I'm experiencing at the moment.
That's the life of Greg at the moment.
