Cadillac Punk? I don't think so.

It has been way too long since I've done a substantial posting, so here's one, I think.

First off, here's the link to my First Footing pix: http://pics.livejournal.com/3stitches/gallery/0001ff53.

Second, middle age is not the time to spend eight hours on the basketball court without a break. Last weekend, I had eight games on Saturday and four on Sunday. Afterward, I said I wouldn't do it again (haven't done more than six in a row for a couple of years). When I got the call on Thursday, I was asked if I would do eight on Saturday again, and I said, "sure." I know, stupid, but I have my reasons. So, in an hour I head back to Coon Rapids Middle School for another four games.

Third, what have I been up to for the last several weeks? Hmm, let me see. Well, there was Christmas with my family. Chrismas eve dinner is always at my parents', and it's always soups, salads and cookies. Oyster stew is always there, and it's something I look forward to. This year we also had matzo ball soup and seafood bisque, all homemade. Yum!

Christmas day I went to my brother's around 3:00 because I don't do the Christmas present thing. I've always hated that part of the holiday (it has ruined Christmas for me since I was a kid), so a couple of years ago I finally told the family that I didn't want to be included anymore. Now I wait to make sure they're done with the present orgy before I show up.

My brother has finished and furnished his carriage house. For those unfamiliar with the term, that's a second house, next door to his house, that is two floors of garage with a big two bedroom apartment on the third floor. He built it because the three car garage on the street side of his house and the one car garage on the lake side weren't enough anymore to house his cars and boats. The carriage house is a great space for a party, and my SIL's office is going into the apartment.

It's also a great place for guests to stay. My other brother and his family stayed there over the holidays. Keeps guests from getting underfoot. There's also a couple of bar/arcade games for when all the other toys lose their fun. Did I mention that my bro likes his toys?

Anyway, here are the pics if you're interested: http://pics.livejournal.com/3stitches/gallery/0001g2wr, and here's the preview:

Trust me, Maggie's a cutie.

Since Christmas, I've been working and anticipating my boss's return from maternity leave. Her boss has been micromanaging me, and it's driving me nuts. We did clear the air the other day, though. I let her know how I feel and she told me that she doesn't actually want me to detail everything I'm doing every time someone calls her. She just wants to know I'm on it. Fine. We'll see.

First footing was loads of fun, though I didn't go. Sophie McHaggis went in my stead. I spent New Year's Eve cooking and sewing. I made a skirt for Sophie and my bruschetta pomodoro for First Footing. I cooked until nearly midnight.

The first payday of the new year sucked. My new insurance premiums took effect, but naturally my raise didn't. I figured out that with my new insurance premiums and my raise, I'll end up taking home a bit over $5 less this year than last. That doesn't count the increased copayments. Bastards.

Basketball started last weekend. I mentioned above that I've done 24 games in two weekends. (Oh, I neglected to mention that I had to take off right after the sentence about my boss's maternity leave. I looked up and realized that I had fifteen minutes to get to my first game, and it's a 20 minute drive. Oh, well.) Fun stuff. Now I'm exhausted and about ready for a nap.

Last night I went to a New Year's party. I made black beans and rice after I got home from basketball. Unfortunately they weren't a big hit. Still, I had a great time. It was good to see that bunch of folks. I may even have convinced another family to come to the EarthHouse MidSummer Gather. A very musical family at that! Catgut may have a fifteen-year-old banjo player to fiddle around with. (Yeah, I'm evil.)

I'm glad I have tomorrow off. I want to spend it lying around.

Anyway, that's me caught up.

Later. Namaste.

3stitches.
