Presence

Who: RED Sniper (hasstandards) and RED Pyro (notintehkitchen), and Teriyaki
Where: RED Base
When: A day after his return to the city from the hunting trip
Rating: PGish
Summary: RED returns home from his trip, having relieved some stress, thought some things through, and decided to bring Pyro something back.

The door to the RED base creaked open and Sniper peered inside, listening for any sign of life. No sound from the den, nor from the hallway- the coast was clear for the moment. He backed out, closing the door without stepping inside, turning to the Shiba Inu at his feet. "Alright. You're gonna have to be quiet in there, got it? No barkin', no runnin' around lettin' her know we're home. Can ya do that, Terr?"

The puppy tilted his head, probably not getting a word his master was saying. Sniper knelt and gave him a scratching behind the ears, assured their presence would be a secret for at least a moment. Beside him sat the reason for his desire for a quiet entrance: a mask made from the skull he'd found in the forest.

He'd managed to sneak into the RED base once already: as soon as they'd gotten back, Sniper had returned briefly and made his way inside without her knowledge (or so he hoped), grabbing her ruined mask and heading for his townhouse; he'd stayed away another night to finish it, wanting it to be perfect. The ruined gas mask itself became the mounting for the skull, filters and eye sockets lining up well enough to make a fair fit; he'd punched holes in the back where he'd cut the mask apart when she'd glued herself into it, lacing it back together with sinew. It wasn't a perfect replacement for the gas mask without an airtight seal, but if she wanted to intimidate those she thought a threat away, she could certainly do that much.

There was only one more thing to do: sneak into the base a second time and leave it on her bed for her to find. A fitting present, he thought, and one that would hopefully surprise her.

Smiling at his ingenuity, he tucked the skull-turned-mask under his arm and opened the door again, letting the puppy pass by him. Teriyaki went bounding down the hallway, as wild as ever- at least he wasn't barking. As for Sniper himself, he set his rifle by the door and headed upstairs, trying to be as silent as humanly possible, each step creaking softly beneath his weight.
