If there was one word she could use to describe her past few nights of dream-travelling, it would be this:

Mind-blowing.

In the sense that she'd like to take a gun to her head and just shoot herself awake, just to spare herself any more drama from visiting the subconscious minds of Paradise's inhabitants. Part of her even felt slightly bad; some of the things she's seen, she's pretty sure were meant to be private and confidential. But it's not like she can help it that Paradise was throwing her into all these dreams. Unless she didn't sleep, and while she felt the guilt, she needed the sleep even more.

From a RED base to a flower field to a temple and then a Japanese house, she was a bit surprised by the sudden normalcy of the setting in front of her. The loud snoring coming from the man was annoying, but nothing she couldn't handle. What interested her were the pictures though. All girls. She headed over to the mantle to inspect them further.

There is really no rhyme or reason to the way the photos were organized. Aside from the oldest of the batch standing in the center--a younger version of the man on the couch, smiling brightly with his new bride in his arms-- the rest of the mantle is occupied with the captured moments of some of the inhabitants' happiest memories. Prom pictures, family softball games, cut-throat Christmas death matches to see who would be the first to open presents that year, there was a picture for almost every major holiday as well as a number of milestone achievements of the many girls in the house ( ... )

"I apologize, I did not intend to intrude," she politely replied. "I don't really like going to people's dreams either, but the past few nights have been...eventful."

"For someone that don't like goin' into dreams, you sure seemed interested in lookin' at those." She motioned with a slight jerk of her chin to the fireplace and the photographs on top.

"They reminded me of a man I knew back home. He had seven brothers, and it's not very often that you see someone with this huge a family." A simple enough explanation, and hopefully one that will suffice.

"Yeah? Where ya from?" Big families, at least to Scout, weren't unusual to her since she'd known of quite a few others back in her hometown.

"San Francisco. Most people had one or two children only, and three was considered more than normal." Truth of the matter is that she's actually from a pretty big family herself, but this is based on her own observation of other children that she went to school with.

"San Fran, huh? What's it like over dere?" The only thing Scout knew about the city was that it had cable cars and some kind of golden bridge, but her curiosity for the major city dimmed after she found out that the bridge wasn't made of gold at all. It was a rusty old red, even. Talk about a misnomer. "S'just anotha big city like Boston, right?"

And mun goes to wiki San Francisco because mun isn't American. prpl_assistant March 20 2012, 02:18:52 UTC
"You could say as such. San Francisco has its good and bad points. I guess what might distinguish San Francisco from Boston though is the demographics of the city. There are quite a fair amount of Asian and Latin American immigrants in San Francisco, and as such it's quite multicultural. San Francisco is also a city that places a lot of importance on the arts; we've got a thriving art and music community."

As a native San Franciscan, you and wiki done good. ouo skooshyscoot March 21 2012, 18:27:28 UTC
"Lots a fresh off the boat folks then, huh? We don't got a lot of Asian people here I think, but the one Chinese place I've seen is always full a them." The arts and music never were one of her bigger interests, so hippies sitting in circles in the parks singing some crap about love and saving the earth served as enough of a mental image for her.

Thanks. I've been to San Frans only once in my life, and that's as much as I can remember about it. prpl_assistant March 21 2012, 20:53:57 UTC
"The Chinese community tend to stay very closely knit," she agreed. Her attention came back on the latest picture, the one where the Scout got her job.

"I also noticed that you work for RED?"

Not having expected someone to recognize her uniform, her eyebrows shot up in surprise and she sat a little straighter in her chair. "Yeah, I do. You've heard'a RED before?"

She looked far too sane to be working with the pack of mercenaries she was used to.

"Yes I have. I work an office job under the Administrator."

She stuck out a hand to shake.

"I'm Miss Pauling."

"Scout. Badlands."

She remained seated as she reaches out to take the other's hand.

"So you work under that cranky old bat on the inter-com?" She chuckles a little. "Man, I wouldn't send a BLU to work for her by the sound of it."

"She's not too bad, once you get to know her." She smiles dryly. How often has she said those words?

After shaking the Scout's hand, she takes a seat opposite the girl.

"So you know that this is a dream? How long have you been having visitors in here?"

Shrugging her shoulders once, she leans into chair with one arm dangling over the back. "Whatever you say, Miss Pauling."

Her face takes on an agitated grimace. Visitors wasn't the best word to describe the people that passed in and out of her personal thoughts.

"Been havin' em for a few days now, and I wouldn't call 'em visitors."
