Memo to Potential American Idol Entrants:
I realize you've been told you need to stand out from the crowd in an audition pool of tens of thousands of people. However, those who get picked tend to get chosen for fitting the profile of both having excellent voices and potentially being thought of as cool by the 18-24 demographic who would be buying the winner's album. Notice that most successful entrants are like the people in a Mentos commercial: they are well-dressed but ordinary and surprise with their singing talent.
Consider these criteria carefully; in this light, think very hard about whether a bizarre costume is *really* going to help.
(I watched a half hour of American Idol, and had to watch a hairy guy in a harem outfit.)
