Nekozawa knew that he wasn't a coward. He just... needed time to regroup and rethink his methods. There was great danger in leaving Suoh-san and Kobayashi -san to the now-possessed Ootori-san. He suspected that the Dark Ones had gotten into the young man while the was warning Darya about the strawberries. Why else would the bravest student in the entire school approach him menacingly with a sharp knife ( ... )

A dark gaze slid over to the black-hooded figure, hands continuing methodically to mix Hani's dry ingredients in with his own wet ingredients. The batter mixed together in large round circles, to be fluffy; he had to be sure not to overdo it, or the batter would be flat and bake unevenly and too rock-hard in some areas. They could, of course, have used an electric mixer, but the true chef could make batter better without such a tool.

"Hmm."

He thought of Nekozawa as interesting, less destructive than Casanova, clearly, but still fairly disturbing to the noisy light fun of the host club.

Nekozawa (as he always did when Mori-san acknowledged his presence) took this to mean that he was welcome to ask questions. The taller boy did not say much, but clearly, he was willing to give a listening ear when necessary.

He glanced at the other two-- Hani was engrossed in explaining to his fans the philosophical meaning of frosting, and the freshman was trying to ignore the pressure of the said fans so that he could go about collecting just the right amount of strawberries.

This was a light atmosphere, Nekozawa reminded himself. Best not to alert too many people of the Dark Ones' presence, he thought, blissfully unaware that his dark cloak, deep voice, and Berenzoff was enough to put a damper on such festivities.

He leaned over to his classmate and whispered, "Mori-san, I don't mean to imply anything, but does Ootori-san seem... a little... ano... unusual to you?

Mori said nothing for a moment, then looked at Nekozawa, expression stagnant.

Raising an arm as steadily and slow as the growth of a tree branch, he pointed to the wall separating their stations.

The Usachan Daisuke team was separated from the other teams. He couldn't see Kyouya, therefore he could hardly make a judgment call, even should he want to refer to Kyouya as unusual or odd in any way, mode or fashion.

(He never particularly wanted to do that.)

It was a little odd, though, to have Nekozawa bring that up. Irony, that as the word. Maybe there was something wrong with Kyouya.

Kasanoda dragged his forced attention away from the baking station to peer through the eyeholes of his mask at the newcomer. Kasanoda recognized Nekozawa, whom he knew through liasons with the Host Club, and his classmate Reiko, who was a Black Magic Club member. Nekozawa was wearing his usual elaborate black cloak, and his familiar cat-shaped handpuppet on one of his hands. Below the dark hood, only his mouth could be seen.

"Oh well," Kasanoda thought, "at least there's someone here who's as weird-looking as I am ... maybe I need to get myself one of those face-hiding hooded cloaks next time I'm caught in situations like this ...

He knew he could count on Mori. Bright smile across his face, Hani happily nodded to his cousin and properly thanked him for catching his fall. Even though it had been planned, he was still happy to know that Takashi was always there for him. With the dry ingredients handed to him, the short senior decided to take on the role of mixing the flour, sugar, and baking powder, along with anything else the taller senior was handing him. When it came to mixing, he knew that he was capable of doing so, Hani thought. He was able to manage the tea ceremony just fine, how is he not able to handle a few dry ingredients? According to the girls, he was very precise and accurate to meeting the clients needs, which he was quite proud of. Placing his one tiny hand onto the big bowl, the blond took a wooden spoon in the other and started to stir the contents. Wanting to do his best to get it to blend in nicely and thoroughly, Hani diligently circled his arm round and round, perhaps... with a pick up in pace? Before he knew it, tiny bits of flour and ( ... )

Mori continued mixing stoically, watching both Hani and Nekozawa. The eggs slid against the flour, stirred in by his spoon, egg yolks newly broken and the swirl of yellow on white. The spoon was wooden, with a long handle, and fit his hand well - a good cook was often defined by his or her implements, and Mori had checked their tools first.

The batter was pale yellow, thick and creamy. He set the bowl dow, awaiting instruction. Food dye, cocoa...?

Nekozawa wavered for a bit because he really liked the sound of cake at this point, having put off breakfast and lunch to prepare for the bake-off. However, he gave his head a little shake to clear his thoughts.

"No," he mumbled while the eying the frosting. Thankfully, because of his cloak, they couldn't see the wistful look in his eyes, and because of the fangirls, they couldn't hear the low rumblings of his stomach. That did not matter. He had a job to do.

He turned around to look at his companions, and maybe ask honey if he could at least taste some of the frosting, but something shiny caught his eye.

And then hope descended upon him again.

"Haninozuka and Morinozuka," he asked, trying to keep the excitement out of his voice, "may I borrow that baking sheet? Five minutes, at the most."
