Been a while since I posted my movie challenge posts. So far I've seen: Children of Men, Dream Girls, Smoking Aces, and Pans Labyrinth, and I'm happy to say that they're all winners.
Children of Men should have gotten more credit than it recieved and a lot more people should go see it because I truly think its the best movie of its kind that's been released this year. Thrilling, great action scenes, violence that's not senseless, and of course great surprises and plot turns. You think you can guess the end of this movie? I doubt it, complete shocker.
Now any of my friends can tell you, I hate musicals with a firey passion. But Dream Girls I loved! Eddie Murphy is amazing in it, as well as Jennifer Hudson. Beyonce does play her role down and sings less to her true potential only because of course Jennifer Hudson is the one who needs to shine, but she does it so gracefully, she truly is learning and perfecting her acting skills.
Now I'm going to admit, even though I was so rooting for this movie it starts out very slow, and the plot is kind of under developed because there was so much MORE they could have done with the story. The characters themselves are good, very interesting you always end up picking out your favorites so that's good. Also the ending is a bit of a surprise, I'm not saying rush to see this one but walk to it at least.
Pans Labyrinth was very interesting indeed, very well developed characters, very good set designs; in fact beautiful set designs, you almost forget that its in spanish and you're reading the little words across the screen. Which I think is great for a movie, but because " oh I hate reading, foreign movies boooo!" but that its made so well it doesn't matter what language its put into, people really get into the story. Especially with her situation and the general in the film at the end, you really root for he. There were people cheering at the end of this movie, mainly because you grow with the characters and grow to hate or like them in just only an hour.
