Okay here's y $.02.

We Americans put ourselves last. We don't want to think about our mortality, or aging, or anything that isn't pretty and between 15-24.

A GP is a /great/ thing. If I could offer, I'd suggest a Doctor of Ostheopathic Medicine (D.O) as opposed to a Medical Doctorate (M.D.) ... why? D.O.'s actually study medicine as a whole, how and why all the systes feed from each other, and relate to each other etc. M.D.'s are more compartmentalized. GP's should be in charge of your day-to-day health, your medications, etc. Keep your GP in the loop on anything from your specialists... I insist all my specialists send copies of /everything/ to my GP, and I make sure it gets done.

You /can/ loose weight and get in shape. More importantly now, Joe dear, you MUST. It is not fun all the time, but find an activity you like (for me, it's biking) and do it four or five times a week. You'll begin to meet people that like your activity too ... it's hard at first, but it's totally worth it.

Don't measure all your goals on the scale: Do your clothes fit different? Does your face look different? How are you feeling? Using the scale as your sole source of self-esteem is setting you up for failure.

Weight yourself no more frequently than weekly. And try to weigh yourself at the same time of day as well, when you do. You will weight less in the morning than the evening.
