Feeling FEARLESS

Sep 29, 2004 21:18

Marching rehearsal again, but after pulling a couple of strings Certamen took precedence today and Martin and I got to study Latin and miss almost an hour of rehearsal. (we organized it pre-Jeanne) I managed to talk to Mr. Lamen and again so far 100% of the people I have talked to agree that FEARLESS will be a good club. He made Pie Club last year so I am going to get help from him in making a school-sanctioned club known as FEARLESS. What is FEARLESS? I made an interest flyer on it, so here it is:

**********

FEARLESS

Fiercely
Eradicating
All
Racism.
Loving
Enemies.
Serving
Society.

The purpose of this local school organization is to slow the vicious problem of racism in our society and to show this through service with a loving attitude. According to socioeconomic demographic data, minorities have stayed consistently in the lower classes. This is due to many problems minorities face in the world - one of them is fear. Some very unfortunate information I found shows that racism is on the rise with hate groups such as the KKK growing in power. In the newspaper yesterday I found that elderly black women were being intimidated from voting. This is clearly wrong and immoral, and I want to see racism eliminated from our society.

But the big question is: What can we do to stop this?

By promoting FEARLESS ideas we can help stop racism through our actions. By distributing material against racism to the populace we can keep people informed on the problems racism has on our lives and others’ lives. By serving soup, donating supplies, building habitats for humanity, we can feed the hungry. We can shelter the homeless. We can reduce the plight of the poor. By doing this all in a loving spirit, we show our true character and integrity. That’s what being FEARLESS is all about.

Before I endeavor to make such a club, it is important to know what people think.
That’s you.
Tell me what you think on a separate piece of paper.

Does this club sound a good idea? Why or why not.
Do you think the youth can make a difference to help this issue? Why or why not.
What are some other ways you think this situation can be dealt with?
Would you be interesting in joining this club if it were made? Why or why not.

So there it is. If you have any comments please leave them here! I am open to all suggestions, criticism, etc etc. In the words of the old skool DC Talk song Colored People:

"Pardon me, your epidermis is showing, sir
I couldn't help but note your shade of melanin
I tip my hat to the colorful arrangement
Cause I see the beauty in the tones of our skin"

So let's stop hating eachother. The only true remedy for fighting racism is love.
