Lunchtime in the Laboratory

And another long-@$$ catch-up post.  Let's see, been over a week.

Got over to Chantilly, Saturday. I now haz upper, to go with the Sharps Rifles lower. A2, 20", HB, 1:9, chrome, flat top, with comped flash suppressor and bayo lug.  Between that and the adjustable stock, call it a DiFi Nightmare(tm).  I got both a red-dot and an iron rear, and stuck 'em on the rail.  Took it over to Blue Ridge and zeroed.  This weekend, I'm planning to finally  do the charity shoot I signed up for. That is, I contributed a Day at the Range with Me to a silent auction, and will take the winning bidder out to BR on Sunday.

A. and I had decided to donate the price of a Valentine's restaurant dinner to charity, so I cooked. We'd talked about something like filet mignon and lobster, and then she pointed out that she'd had a longstanding (several weeks' worth) yen for a good roast pork, with lots of garlic cloves. As it happened, I scored a five-pound shoulder roast on sale. Perforated with a knife, and stuck about 8-10 cloves of garlic in. I also injected it with a suspension of powdered rosemary in a mix of equal parts white wine, apple cider, and soy sauce. Right before putting it in the oven, covered the top with ground rosemary and garlic powder. Nom.  Also have eaten another dinner off of it, and frozen 2.  Oh -- and of course, did the hearts-and-flowers thing. Can't forget that.

TGIF. Just sayin'.  Boss talked me into taking on the management of a project where most of the work's going to be done by consultants, I've never used the package, and half the back-end's going to be done by the development team. Did I mention, by the way, that Diplomacy, Tact, and Marketing Acumen are NOT fortes of mine? Bleh. I'd much rather be doing my usual thing, which is peeing on forest fires.

Finished Mission of Honor.  I'm reading The Lotus Eaters in E-ARC form on the PC, and re-reading Schlock Mercenary: The Tub of Happiness in hardcopy. MoH  wasn't bad, except for Weber's usual excess of infodumps. I just treat 'em like the Galt speech in Atlas Shrugged. Once I finish TLE, I've also downloaded Ringo's Live Free Or Die.

This weekend, I'm going to help schlep some MacLean's Regimental stuff, and do the cooking / planning to start an Atkins induction with A.  Assuming I stick with it, should be fitting better into my armor by spring.

Odd note:  Does anybody else find the ear-worm / jingle in the background of Verizon FIOS ads, to be incredibly annoying?  Driving in today, the ad started playing right before traffic-and-weather. I punched the radio button for the rock station, went through a stoplight's worth of head-banger music, and then switched back to WTOP. Much better. Black Sabbath produces ear-bleach that effectively kills that jingle.
