Last week was a mix of busy and thumb-twiddling at work. Had our Annual Staff Meeting, aka pep rally. Last Thursday night was our annual holiday party. Friday morning, I was reminded by some fragile-looking coworkers that my habit of drinking Diet Coke all night is a good one.
Had a blast at the party, including dance-floor time. Got talked into some line-dancing, even. Usually, I'm hopeless at any stuff later than 1700CE or thereabouts.
One major happy-dance item: Every year, we have a silent auction for charity. This year, the beneficiary is a women's shelter. I've been contributing a day at the range with me, as a bid item, the last several years. One of the bidders amazed and impressed me -- she's fairly hoplophobic, and decided to jump in the water anyway. However, she got outbid by one of the directors in our Political department. Next morning, she asked if I'd be up for doing this twice. She matched his contribution to the charity, so now I'm taking BOTH of them to the range (each on their own day, of course). W00T!
[ETA] I was a small percentage of the $2289.00 that the silent auction raised for
Calvary Women's Shelter in DC.
A while back,
abz6598 posted about he and his wife getting pairs of
YakTrax. I was over at Dick's in Manassas, and found that they have them. SCORE! A. and I each have a set. Hey, Frost Giants, and Gods of Icy Sidewalks? Bring it.
Finally got to see Potterdammerung Part I, yesterday. Was interesting to have little flashbacks to the book, as bits were about to happen in the movie. I also flashed back to my thoughts while reading the book, at one point. A certain nasty old bat is wearing an item around her neck. If it'd been me, I wouldn't have stunned her and grabbed it. I'd have used "Accio [item]", and garrotted / decapitated her.
I, by the way, am ready for spring. Got my baptism-by-snow t'other weekend, driving from Winston-Salem to Richmond on Saturday evening. That's enough snow for the year, thankyouverymuch.
