Insomnia, Catching up Thereby

Last weekend, went down to Williamsburg and Jamestown. The row house in James Fort is coming along. Roof is thatched, upper floor is wattled-and-daubed. Ground floor is wattled, about 1/2 daubed. Should be up to snuff for Foods and Feasts.

Over on the Island, I've found a way to deal with the GunBusters sign on the visitor Center. The Archaearium and Dale House Cafe aren't posted. There's a side (supposed to be exit) gate to the parking lot. Leave gun in car, go into Visitor Center, get sticker. Put on sticker, go to car, get gun, use gate. No problemo. The hilarious thing, of course, is that next weekend (Bacon's Rebellion), they'll have no issues whatsoever about me being in the building and armed to the teeth. Go figure.

Williamsburg, due to budget cuts and RIFs, has combined a lot of exhibits and buildings. The windmill has been moved to, and will be rebuilt at, the farm site. The Gunsmith shop was moved over to the Geddy Foundry a year or so ago. Most of the discussion in there now is about gunsmithing, rather than foundry work and casting. Chowning's Tavern no longer has bottled root beer - it's all soda-fountain. On the brighter side, we did a return trip through Charlton's Coffee House. We also scored a half-pound of period chocolate at Prentis's Store.

Best of all was a score at the Print Shop / Post Office. A. and I have made pilgrimage numerous times to Jamestown Settlement's cafe, where we can get Brunswick Stew.  Sunday, we were talking to the head cook at the Governor's Palace about it. He said that there's tons of recipes out there, so trying to nail down an "authentic" one is like catching a greased pig.  Fast-forward to the Post Office, where I got a copy of The Williamsburg Art of Cookery or Accomplish'd Gentlewoman's Companion. It's got THREE recipes for different variations.  Today will be crockpot-redaction day.

I've also got guns bagged, and magazines loaded, for my annual pilgrimage to Blue Ridge Arsenal, and my appointment with an Osama target.  Will also put in some time assisting an LJ friend with moving.
