I've been sitting on a pile of legacy hardware for a decade. I built this pile with time and money, with an intention of doing something with it. Not sure what - make it useful again, perhaps.
I put it together enough to see that where it was going to lead was not where I hoped it would. That time and place is lost, but I still have the memories. So I gave it all away.
The relief of finally letting go was indescribable!
As the challenges I deal with professionally and privately get more complex, my drive to eliminate unnecessary things increases. I spent the last 15 years simplifying my own head, my own life, so that there would be room to think clear thoughts.
My time on LiveJournal is coming to an end, and I mean that in the most positive way. The best thing I ever did was to start saying "No". No I'm not keeping this. No I'm not buying this. No I'm not putting up with this. By saying no I carved out a space for my own enthusiasm, engagement, and optimism.
