CER President, Chief Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt described the recent daubing and spate of vandalism against Christian sites as “something that is un-Jewish and pains us all.”
“These actions contradict both the spirit and the letter of the Torah,” Rabbi Goldschmidt said.
The CER has called on Israeli government authorities to thoroughly investigate these criminal acts and to use the full force of the law against the perpetrators.
Offensive slogans against Christians were spray-painted at the Jerusalem Baptist Church and at the Greek Orthodox Monastery of the Holy Cross last week.
“Throughout the history of the State of Israel, the Jewish State has protected the religious rights of those of all faiths. We must ensure that citizens of all faiths as well as those visiting the country are treated with respect for their religious traditions,” Rabbi Goldschmidt said.
